The Forbidden Name Rev. A. J. Ogden
In this so called Christian country, people may talk about any name you have ever heard, but Jesus. School classrooms forbid talk about Jesus, even though they discuss any other name on earth. Nothing is off limits except the name Jesus. It must be the most hated name on earth today! Without a doubt, the name Jesus is the most controversial name in the world. The name Jesus embarrasses people more then any curse word ever spoken. It should be the opposite!
About seven or eight hundred years before Jesus was born in the stable at Bethlehem, Isaiah wrote concerning his birth into the world, Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful , Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace .”
More is said in that one verse of God’s word than I could ever learn in a life time. Now let me share with you a few things I do understand about Him. He is all I need! He is the one who took my place at Calvary. He gives me the breath that I breathe, the heart beat that keeps me alive and He is the Christ of Christmas. We would not have any Christmas without Jesus!
Isaiah said, for one thing, “He is wonderful.” Jesus was wonderful in a thousand ways. Let me just name several in this small space I have here. He was wonderful in eternity past. He was wonderful in creation. He was wonderful in his birth. No one else was ever born of a virgin like Jesus. He was wonderful in his childhood. He was the only perfect child ever born. He was wonderful in his earthly ministry when he saved the lost, healed the sick, made blinded eyes to see. He even raised the dead. Yes, he was wonderful when he suffered on that old rugged cross for my sins and yours. He was wonderful when he rose from the dead and after a little while ascended back to heaven, and is coming again. He is my wonderful Lord who has prepared a place for me and you, if you are saved. His name is truly wonderful, and no one will stop me from saying, “Jesus is the sweetest name I know,” at Christmas time and all the year. How about you?
