Couple delivering Christmas presents to family stopped by police
A couple delivering Christmas presents to their family have been stopped by police for breaking coronavirus laws.

South Wales Police said the pair had travelled from Essex and told officers they were heading to Cardiff to give gifts to relatives.

The force said the couple were "in breach of COVID legislation", as it revealed 110 vehicles were stopped in the first 24 hours of random checks in the Welsh capital.

Hi John,
Yes, Scotland is the land of the brave alright. It's a wonder how anyone of my family survived with all the hardships that buffeted them on all sides.
So you paint? That's wonderful. I also paint and woodwork which keeps me busy. I used to illustrate but with my joint pain, I find holding a pen uncomfortable after a half hour or so. If you have time, write me and we can talk further about our hobbies, Scotland and other interesting subjects.
Thanks Watcher, I will do that, probably tomorrow now. Today I have been proper crock with a thick head. I have a limited amount of migraine medication, so I decided to suffer it today, and it is still ongoing. I have taken some codeine phosphate, which relieves it to some degree, but it is nowhere near as effective as the triptans which virtually guarantee to clear a migraine in about an hour.

Anyway, I'll email you tomorrow when I hopefully feel somewhat better. I'll get an early night tonight and maybe able to sleep it off.

Off subject, John, but I was wondering if you still do your paintings?
Hi Mike, when I reached retirement age three years ago I virtually 'hung up my brushes'. But in the last year, despite joint pains which makes painting a bit painful, I have experienced a new lease of life, and am now painting more than ever, having discovered the style of Edward Wesson, a modern impressionist. I am soooo enjoying it now. Thanks for asking.

Unfortunately yes, I was born in this country. I would give almost anything to move to my homeland and drink in the history and environment of my people. I do like a warmer ocean though, the Atlantic up in the north can be an awful beast to contend with.
If the world was a safer place, I would love to visit the mid-east and walk where my Lord walked, and stand where He was crucified in my place. I think that would be very sobering and put a lot into perspective.
Scotland is very inhospitable bro. I've been to Inverness and couldn't believe how cold it was.

I have a beloved Christian sister who has been to the Holy Land, and she said it was most helpful in understanding scripture. I would love to go myself.

HM- the brothers and their sermons that lb listed are all excellent and I would recommend them also.
I have only one at this time to recommend that I believe the Lord has laid on my heart.
It is for all “The Theological Gunslingers “, (not my terminology) but a phrase coined by another brother who preaches the free and sovereign grace gospel of Jesus Christ.
Quite convicting as well as edifying.
‘Love, Justice, & Correction’.

You're right Tim. I used to do that when I was caught up in my own dead works. I would always look to my own doings, like repenting of sin, I was neck deep in Reformed/Calvinist dung. A.W. Pink was one of my heroes, I now realize he was a legalist. It wasn't until about a couple of years ago I heard the true Gospel of sovereign grace, God opened my mind to His truth and I saw how awful my dead works were. The Lord has done everything necessary to save His sheep, and He reveals that to us in due time by the preaching of the true Gospel. Christ IS my righteousness
Herbal Mama, I would LOVE to share some of the edifying sermons I've listened to! I will try to post some links here in the next day or so, I'm sure sister MS will do the same once she reads through this thread.

Thanks Ladybug and MS. Almost invariably—and we’re probably all guilty at least to some extent—when people are asked, “How do you know you’re saved?” the first words out of their mouth will be “Because I...” We really should say “Because He...”

Exactly Tim, when we see the types and shadows of Christ in the Old Testament, we can see more clearly in the N.T. our High Priest who lives to make intercession for us. The 'burden' to constantly do something is lifted when the mind is opened to what He has already done to save His sheep. This is when true rest comes, then we cease from our labor, our dead works. We repent of those dead works, God gives us this mind change. We no longer practice the religion of Cain, whose sacrifice was unacceptable to God, the 'mystery Babylon' religion that is works based. Our 'acceptable sacrifice' is Christ alone. It's never Christ plus what we think we do. So, the legalist/conditionalist will scream 'antinomian!' because they fail to see His finished work as the ONLY 'propitiation'/satisfaction for sin. It's joyful to see God revealing all this!

Throughout Scripture, a leper is typical of a lost sinner, and the ritual cleansing of a leper in Leviticus 14 provides a beautiful picture of salvation:
1. The PRIEST (and not the leper) makes the leper clean—verse 11, cf. I John 1:7.
2. The PRIEST (and not the leper) offers a lamb—verse 12, cf. I Peter 1:18-19.
3. The PRIEST (and not the leper) applies the blood—verse 14, cf. Hebrews 13:12.
4. The PRIEST (and not the leper) anoints—verses15-18, cf. I John 2:20.
5. The PRIEST (and not the leper) makes the atonement—verses 19-20, cf. Romans 5:11.
Thanks be unto God for our Great High Priest who has done it all in our behalf!

Amen! HE finished the work, HE redeemed His people, HE keeps them. The Father is satisfied with the Son, that's ALL He sees...the 'FINISHED WORK' of His Son

Ah, so you are actually Canadian, born and bred? I am an Englishman born and bred, from the Midlands. I moved to Wales about fourteen years ago, and this I expect will be my final resting place. I live about 900 yards from the local harbour. It is only a small one and it dries out at low tide. It is in south Wales, and I also love water of all types, rivers, canals, streams, brooks, lakes, reservoirs, and the sea. If I had to make a choice on where I could live, anywhere in the world, I might choose a small village on the Sea of Galilee.
Unfortunately yes, I was born in this country. I would give almost anything to move to my homeland and drink in the history and environment of my people. I do like a warmer ocean though, the Atlantic up in the north can be an awful beast to contend with.

Amen, Ladybug. Another one, by W.A. Criswell: If we have any tendency whatsoever to look, we look at everything and everyone except God. Some look to Moses...There are others who look to ordinances, to baptism, and the water, thinking this will wash their sins away. There are others who look to themselves and examine themselves and ask: “Did I repent just right? Did I believe just right? Did I join the church just right? Am I living just right? Is my consecration just right?” They look inwardly to themselves, while all the while the voice of the living God is the same. “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth.”

Yes Tim!! A hearty amen. I don't know a lot about him either, but this quote is spot on. "look to the Lamb of God, and keep continually looking unto Jesus, and not at your repentings, resolutions, reformation, praying, reading, hearing, or anything of yours as forming any reason why you should be accepted, pardoned, and saved" that's it!
Keep looking unto Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith. Rest in Him! Thanks for sharing, this was a great blessing
