LA Times Targets John MacArthur’s Church By Labeling Three COVID-19 Cases An ‘Outbreak’
The Los Angeles Times targeted California pastor John MacArthur and Grace Community Church on Thursday by publishing an article that framed the congregation’s three reported COVID-19 cases as an “outbreak.”

“Coronavirus outbreak strikes L.A. megachurch that defied public health orders,” said the headline.

The church defied county orders to resume in-person services in July. While the Times noted it has “an estimated attendance of 7,000” and only reported the three cases of COVID-19 to “determine whether there is an outbreak,” the paper still used that label. ...

Thank you, Brother. Just rewatched "Is Genesis History?" It reminded me of all the different theories that were so accepted and now jettisoned, and even that there are a variety of opinions between Christian, young earth scientists regarding how things came to be. That is the nature of science. We want to think that the scientists have the answers. Ultimately, they have guesses with more questions and the more they learn, the more questions they have.

Trust is a difficult thing. Not much here we could ever trust in but the Lord Himself. Grateful for Brothers like you in whom His Spirit rests and the wisdom you often share.

I do believe you have nailed the problem, Brother Frank. The reality of science is that there are many theories based on observations and then analysis which has an inherent bias simply because people are doing the observations and analizing. That leads to a variety of opinions, disputes, controversies, and the like. Add the political factor which you aptly included, and no one knows who or what to believe. At least I don't. If there has been a major casualty, it is Trust. Because when Truth seems so relative based on whomever is speaking or shouting and the varieties of information from the "experts" isn't all that consistent, the nihilism of the age just creeps in. And now Truth, having been slain some years ago in the name of political and societal expediance, wasn't there to uphold his brother Trust. And Trust has fallen. Wisdom for her part, must be standing afar off with Justice. Both must be shaking their heads in disgust. Shouldn't we also?
My goodness brother well said. There is no truth outside of Christ and our Christian faith. IMO, total depravity pretty much explains it all. I may believe someone, but my trust is only with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

(UPDATE) A fourth case is associated with ... Church, ...a congregant.

"Three very mild positive tests among more than 7000 people is hardly news. 0.0004% is not an ‘outbreak.’ The LA Times and others’ grossly misleading and fear-mongering headlines aim to mischaracterize Grace Community Church as irresponsible and a superspreader. It has never been the Church’s position that it is only safe to hold services if no one ever tests positive, or for example, if no one ever gets the flu during flu season. Our position has been that LA County shutting down churches indefinitely amid a virus with a 99.98% survival rate, especially when state-preferred businesses are open and protests are held without restriction, is unconstitutional and harmful to the free exercise of religion."

I wrote the public relations firm back to inform them that the actual percentage is .043% (3 divided by 7000 multiplied by 100). If they issue a correction, I will note it. Perhaps this is why MacArthur continues to cite incorrect prevalence figures for CA.

(UPDATE) – The public relations firm wrote back and acknowledged the math error....

MacArthur's biggest beef is that other activities are permitted but not worship. That a measly 3 cases have arisen over all this time with all those people is evidence in his favor.
Yes brother, no one knows for sure about this virus. It changes with political agendas and that makes it even more ridiculous. We do know that it is extremely contagious and that it is lethal for older people with underlying conditions and there are probably billions of us in the world. I say extremely contagious because of the worldwide occurrences. We tend to look at things like this with a view of our own neighborhoods. Example, I know of no one who has had the virus, but that doesn’t mean that millions haven’t had it.

To me it is disgusting that scientists say different things about it. Science is not supposed to be biased and political. Reminds me of global warming and evolution.

Thanks for sharing your wise thoughts.

If only JMac held services as a peaceful protest, with members marching around with torches and signs, they would have been left alone and been defended by the left wingnut governor and media. No “outbreak” would exist.

The county has cut off the water, their electricity, closed their parking lot and they have threatened to arrest the pastor and staff . China is a world power and dispots and thugs are taking names and applying lessons learned.

Difficult circumstances these days. At some point, it comes down to principle. No one should be cavalier in suggesting the Lord's protection over their earthly lives. No one should be cavalier regarding commandments such as gathering together.

I'm not convinced that the virus is as serious for the vast majority as the teary eyed pleas on TV make it out to be, esp at this point. I'm also not convinced it's not a danger to some either.

For decades and decades we have had flu. I have had it on a number of occasions, once or twice seriously. I never went to the doctor, but stayed at home with good strong self medication. I recovered. No lockdowns, no police, no fines, no one telling me what I may purchase or not, no closing of borders, domestic or international, no ban on family gatherings or seeing your elderly mother or grandmother, no ban on singing or church services and no masks in sight. Yes, flu is and was serious, and some very elderly or unwell people died of it. Yet no politician thought to destroy the economy and impose a draconian dictatorial authoritarian regime. Yet along comes this man made virus, with a sinister agenda behind it, though for most people no worse than the flu, and the whole world goes crazy and into lockdown. This has more to do with population control and environmentalism than any health issue, and in fact lockdowns create health issues that are extremely serious. Cases are not what matter but deaths, and these are extremely low. Even your US CDC has admitted this, and a doctor on the WHO has said lockdowns do not work. Yet, the globalists are pushing constantly for the “new normal”, and Governor Newsom now tells you how you are allowed to have family gatherings. This is 1984!!

John McArthur's church was not singled out. As was pointed out what any religious institution is supposed to do❗

"Under the county health officer’s order, places of worship must report to the county Public Health Department when at least three coronavirus cases are identified among staff or worshipers within a span of 14 days so the agency can determine whether there is an outbreak."
