Charlotte Pence Bond shares her born-again experience after living ‘double life’
“I started reading atheists’ writings and literature. I was close with professors who were agnostic or atheist. I just started kind of trying it out,” she said. “I didn’t fully turn away from my faith but I wanted to see if I really needed it. Looking back on that year, I looked back over this journal I kept and I noticed in the journal all of the times that things of significance happened and I felt the need to write them down.”

“A lot of times it had been when I would come across a Bible verse or something had happened that clearly involved God and clearly involved another encounter with religion in some way,” she added. “What I really realized is that during that entire year, I was running away from God very actively. But the entire year, He was running after me.” ...

Now the word “conversion” means two things. We say a man is “converted” when he is born again. But it also has a different meaning in the Bible. Peter said: “Repent, and be converted.” The Revised Version reads: “Repent, and turn.” Paul said that he was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision, but began to preach to Jews and Gentiles that they should repent and turn to God. Some old divine has said: “Every man is born with his back to God. Repentance is a change of one’s course. It is right about face.”
Sin is a turning away from God. As someone has said, it is aversion from God and conversion to the world: and true repentance means conversion to God and aversion from the world. When there is true contrition, the heart is broken for sin; when there is true conversion, the heart is broken from sin. We leave the old life, we are translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Wonderful, isn’t it?
Unless our repentance includes this conversion, it is not worth much. If a man continues in sin, it is proof of an idle profession.

George Whitefield, standing in his tabernacle in London, and with a multitude gathered about him, cried out: “The Lord Jesus will save the devil’s castaways!”
Two poor abandoned wretches standing outside in the street, heard him, as his silvery voice rang out on the air. Looking into each other’s faces, they said: “That must mean you and me.” They wept and rejoiced. They drew near and looked in at the door, at the face of the earnest messenger, the tears streaming from his eyes as he plead with the people to give their hearts to God. One of them wrote him a little note and sent it to him.
Later that day, as he sat at the table of Lady Huntington, who was his special friend, someone present said:
“Mr. Whitefield, did you not go a little too far to-day when you said that the Lord would save the devil’s castaways?”
Taking the note from his pocket he gave it to the lady, and said: “Will you read that note aloud?”
She read: “Mr. Whitefield: Two poor lost women stood outside your tabernacle to-day, and heard you say that the Lord would save the devil’s castaways. We seized upon that as our last hope, and we write you this to tell you that we rejoice now in believing in Him, and from this good hour we shall endeavor to serve Him, who has done so much for us.”

The kings and princes of this world, when they issue invitations, call round them the rich, the mighty and powerful, the honorable and the wise; but the Lord, when He was on earth; called round Him the vilest of the vile. That was the principal fault the people found with Him. Those self-righteous Pharisees were not going to associate with harlots and publicans. The principal charge against Him was: “This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.” Who would have such a man around him as John Bunyan in his time? He, a Bedford tinker, couldn’t get inside one of the princely castles. I was very much amused when I was over on the other side. They had erected a monument to John Bunyan, and it was unveiled by lords and dukes and great men. While he was on earth, they would not have allowed him inside the walls of their castles. Yet he was made one of the mightiest instruments in the spread of the Gospel. No book that has ever been written comes so near the Bible as John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress.” And he was a poor Bedford tinker. So it is with God. He picks up some poor, lost tramp, and makes him an instrument to turn hundreds and thousands to Christ.

Dr. Tim to Ladybug wrote:
I didn’t call anybody names. I didn’t accuse anyone of anything. Moody was a man of God who humbly preached Jesus. He had a heart for souls, and God used him mightily. The gospel that saves is that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again according to the scriptures. That is the ONLY gospel that saves. Salvation is by grace through faith and is effected by repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Deny that, and you deny the gospel.
Precisely, bro! There are some who complicate the gospel so much that they never achieve any conversions, they merely 'beat the air' with an air of superiority, thinking to exalt the Lord who they claim to believe in, yet never seem able to bear the fruit of the Spirit, which is the evidence of new birth. The first requisite for anybody if they wish to win souls to Christ is to be filled with the Spirit. Those who are filled with the Spirit are filled with love towards those they preach to. Those who tell lies about those they preach to are liars and they are not filled with the Spirit. Therefore......connect the dots.

God doesn't save anybody using false gospels, if you disagree, then start calling RCC folks 'brethren' or anyone who names 'Jesus'. As stated, you have to know the true to spot the false.
I know many will agree that lots of folks 'got saved' under Moody, but you won't find a verse in all the bible that verifies God uses accursed gospels to save anybody. Tons claim multitudes 'got saved' under B. Graham's version of his accursed gospel, and the same claim is said for Charles Finney, the one who laid out the groundwork for altar calls. Those whom God gives ears to hear will hear and understand, the rest will do what they always do. Doesn't matter to me one iota what the 'SA clique' thinks......BTW, IF you preach an accursed gospel, you are bringing NO ONE to jesus, instead, you are leading them to a pseudo jesus. That doesn't sink in to those who hold dear to doctrines of demons....now, proceed with your name calling, your false accusations, your gnashing of teeth I will continue to profess Christ crucified, the righteousness of God, as long as the Lord gives me breath. Speaking of salvation by GRACE alone, pointing to Christ alone.... The elect WILL hear, and they will come.....

It is estimated that a million people got saved under Moody’s preaching. When you have brought that many to Christ, perhaps you will be in a position to criticize him.
Moody himself would be the first to admit that he was not a “good” preacher. However, he was a powerful preacher, filled with the Holy Ghost. Are you? Are YOU bringing people to Christ?

The problem is, most professing Christians have no problem with compromise, they yoke themselves to whatever calls itself Christian. If another gospel is proclaimed, Paul lays out the guidelines for how to handle that, -6I am amazed that so quickly you are deserting from the One having called you in the grace of Christ to another gospel, 7which is not another, except there are some who are troubling you and are desiring to pervert the gospel of Christ.

8But even if we or an angel out of heaven should preach a gospel to you contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed! 9As we have said before, even now I say again: If anyone is preaching a gospel to you contrary to what you received, let him be accursed! Galatians 1.
Of course, you have to know the true in order to spot the false....

I think everyone must be careful about leaning into the Cancel Culture methodology. If we do, we will find fault with everyone with the exception (assuming we're honest about it) of the Lord God Almighty.

There is no other hero, no other pure, no other always right.

In the meantime, if a fallable person shares truth, perhaps we should accept that truth as truth having been proven out thru Berean-like studies.

Otherwise, we begin to place ourselves above others as if we are founts of knowledge & wisdom, thinking more of ourselves than we ought or is warranted.

Instead, let us endeavor to take the lower seat and esteem others better than ourselves.

For I too am a sinner saved by grace, and grace alone.

Moody delighted in ecumenism, "‘I hope,’ he exclaimed ‘to see the day when all bickering, division and party feeling will cease, and Roman Catholics will see eye to eye with Protestants in this work. Let us advance in a solid column – Roman Catholics, Protestants, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists – against the ranks of Satan’s emissaries." It is amazing that Moody gained such a large following for he was not a good preacher. In both content and delivery his sermons were poor. He preached freewill. It is difficult to categorize Moody as a consistent Arminian, because he did not have a systematic theology, but the main theme of his sermons was that salvation is free in Jesus Christ to whomever will accept it. - from https://cprc.co.uk/articles/moody/#opposition. False teachers and compromisers should never be quoted or defended by the elect, and they aren't...

It says in another place, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.” We would have a victorious Church if we could get Christian people to realize that. But they have never made the discovery. They agree that Christ is the sin-bearer, but they do not realize that He is also the burden-bearer. “Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.” It is the privilege of every child of God to walk in unclouded sunlight.

Some people go back into the past and rake up all the troubles they ever had, and then they look into the future and anticipate that they will have still more trouble, and they go reeling and staggering all through life. They give you the cold chills every time they meet you. They put on a whining voice, and tell you what “a hard time they have had.” I believe they embalm them, and bring out the mummy on every opportunity. The Lord says, “Cast all your care on Me. I want to carry your burdens and your troubles.” What we want is a joyful Church, and we are not going to convert the world until we have it. We want to get this long-faced Christianity off the face of the earth.
D.L. Moody [Matthew 11:28-30, 1 Peter 5:7]

It's great teaching. He is so right.

Bond said that at times, she “almost didn’t want Christianity to be the truth” because that would mean she would need to change the things that she was doing and the people she was hanging out with.

“That was going to mean a drastic shift in my life,” she stated. “It was going to mean that I was going to have to answer to this God and I was going to have to lose relationships, which I did, in order to follow Him and follow after Him wholeheartedly.”
[from the article]

It sure looks as though the Spirit of God was at work in her life, showing her the cost of following Jesus; that Christianity was real, that Jesus Christ was real, that becoming a Christian would mean changes in her lifestyle.

Praise God for his works of grace in a sinner's life, that he should get them to turn right around, without forcing it. It is amazing how a sinner repents and comes to believe on Christ, when they are so adamantly against such a thing. Phew! Any conversion should be the cause of great praise and rejoicing, so that we sing Amazing Grace over and over. For a lost sheep has been found, a prodigal son has returned, and all the angels are rejoicing.
