China Bans Massive House Church after They Refused to Install Surveillance Cameras
China has banned the house church Zion, a 1500-member congregation, after they refused to install surveillance cameras in their church. China threatened to close down the church if they did not comply and have now come through on their threat.

According to Christianity Today, even though the church had been able to gather without registering for some time, the Chinese government claimed that the church was banned because without registering first, its gatherings were illegal.

The Chinese government also confiscated what it called "illegal promotional material" from the church, Reuters reports. It is unknown what the "illegal" material consisted of, but one guess is it was mostly Bibles and church literature. This happened despite the country's constitutional guarantee of religious freedom to churches. Reportedly, Xi Jinping, who took office 8 years ago, began completely disregarding this right ...

I suspect that John UK‚Äôs method is used exclusively in North Korea, which is far more advanced even than its huge neighbour China, in outlawing the Christian Church. Only 3 ‚Äúshow‚ÄĚ churches are permitted in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, and are opened up for special services only when diplomats or foreign visitors are to be impressed. One is Protestant, one Catholic, and one Korean Speaking Russian Eastern Orthodox. All other Christian worship is totally and completely illegal and subject to savage penalties upon discovery, usually very long sentences in harsh concentration camps, or even death. Most North Korean believers, U understand, meet in cellars, basements, forests, fishing boats, or in remote places, in very small groups,(because of spying neighbours, and sometimes even their own children), with handwritten bible passage pages or hymns, and very little noise is made!!

Oh, China, how Orwellian of you and not the least bit surprising.

1500 in a house church is quite a lot. Indeed, John, Smaller groups would be a better option considering the perscution.

It's okay, just break down into small groups and meet more secretly. God will provide a way for his people to have fellowship and Bible teaching and take communion together. The preaching of repentance and faith can continue, and souls can still be saved. They do not need a big name preacher, just the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
