John MacArthur urges churches to challenge gov’t and reopen
Pastors John MacArthur and Andy Stanley, who are both influential Christian leaders, presented dueling advice on how churches should respond to government restrictions amid the pandemic this week, with MacArthur urging pastors to open because the supposed need for indefinite lockdowns is a “lie,” while Stanley recommended cooperation.

Both MacArthur, who leads Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, and Stanley, who leads North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, shared their thoughts on the controversial issue during a Q Session discussion with moderator and Q Ideas founder Gabe Lyons on Wednesday.

MacArthur, who's been locked in an ongoing public dispute with Los Angeles County over his decision to hold indoor Sunday morning worship services for his thousands of members, argued that while it's “crystal clear that God has ordained government,” he will no longer aid and abet ...

John MacArthur seems to have a faulty memory?

" The other thing that we talked about with the elders was if we defy this and if we say we’re going to meet anyway, we run the risk of exposing people to this illness needlessly. And why would we want to do that? Because this is a health issue, this is a health crisis. And since like any church, many of the people in our church are older. We wouldn’t want to expose them to that. We’ve only had, as far as I know, and this was up to yesterday, we’ve only had one couple in our church in the Spanish ministry who actually got the coronavirus. But that couple, and not an older couple either, wound up in the hospital because it was such a virulent experience for them."

Thanks Mike. It seems to me that these things go round in circles. Whenever the church has a time of prosperity and lack of persecution, it becomes lethargic and often lazy, quite content, giving no diligence to important spiritual matters, and eventually going through a mere form, a ritual, having a form of godliness without the power of God attending it. This inevitably attracts the chastisement of Father, who will seek to bring his children back to a real Christian life by whatever means necessary.

2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
(7)  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

I do wish all churches would preach this text until normality returned to God's children, when fear would be gone, and the disciples of Jesus were filled with power, and with love, and with a sound mind.

However, history shows that the church, whether in the OT or NT, always seems to wait until things get really bad before responding to God's rod.

It’s too bad sermon audio has goats writing comments. No true Christian would vote into office a candidate that is pro abortion and supporters of life styles prohibited by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We need to pray for the lost and support Christian leaders when they stand up against the government when it violates biblical foundation principles.

Timothy,I tried to be informative, not so much entertaining which some people think their comments are, but really aren't❗

Mr. Throckmorton can be Informative and entertaining. But I refer to his blogs for being informative, such as this YouTube, which I think it's even on the John MacArthur site, and it certainly is informative.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpogWiu8snQ

I should have pointed out it's only about 6 minutes long.

But, just like George F. Will I will own up to the fact that I'm going to vote for Biden You can look at Mr. Will's columns on the Washington Post and see the good reasons for voting for Biden

JMAC is right and Stanley is a coward. All this “pandemic” is a joke and a polical shift to change societies standards. The church needs some good leadership that will stand up and help the flock. If it’s not done now the churches will look like the malls do now. Barely operational and about to close!

I’m going to vote for Trump, and I’m happy to own it.
By the way, Jim, is Warren Throckmorton a descendant of Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve? I find the Great Gildersleeve infinitely more entertaining than the Not-So-Great Lincoln.

Penny, I don't think you're still around on the board, But I did support half heartedly when we talked about John McArthur. Your thoughts on John McArthur. I will say that I entirely agree with you now.

Back in 2016 this was on Warren's Throckmorton's blog. The YouTube is even truer today

Warren Throckmorton wrote:
But please consider this: A vote for Donald Trump is not necessarily a vote for Donald Trump himself. It is a vote for those who will be affected by the results of this election. Not to vote is to vote. God will not hold us guiltless.

The evasion of responsibility is highly disturbing. If you are going to vote for Trump, own it.

Earlier this year, John MacArthur blasted fellow evangelicals for supporting Trump. At that time, he said Trump was “a model of everything , everything that is destructive in morality in our culture.”
