Half of U.S. Christians say casual sex between consenting adults is sometimes or always acceptable
Many Christian traditions disapprove of premarital sex. And even though Christians in the United States hold less permissive views than religiously unaffiliated Americans about dating and sex, most say it’s acceptable in at least some circumstances for consenting adults to have sex outside of marriage, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.
Half of Christians say casual sex – defined in the survey as sex between consenting adults who are not in a committed romantic relationship – is sometimes or always acceptable. Six-in-ten Catholics (62%) take this view, as do 56% of Protestants in the historically Black tradition, 54% of mainline Protestants and 36% of evangelical Protestants....
How many of these "christians" were actually Christian?
1Cor 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife."
I have heard the argument that if there is no victim, then it is okay to do whatever you want to do. I actually engaged someone who was arguing that sodomy or adultery were okay as long as it was between two consenting adults. What this article is saying is the same thing regarding heterosexual fornication. I think this is the opinion of either someone who is atheistic or libertarian.
Anyway, I asked them if their spouse committed adultery and they never found out about it, would it still be wrong. They just looked at me and said yes. I asked them if the pain a parent would have if their child was homosexual could be overlooked. They had to concede that the parent’s feelings mattered.
Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
The stats are skewed. Roman Catholicism is included. The numbers drop with evangelicals which may be getting closer to true.Christians.Mainline Protestants May include very liberal people who already reject the Bible. Further, how many are in churches that practice biblical church discipline? This is a poll of the wheat and the tares.
