Judge denies order to shut down John MacArthur's church
A California Superior Court judge denied Los Angeles County on Tuesday renewed application for a temporary restraining order to prevent Pastor John MacArthur and his Grace Community Church from gathering for worship.

The county, insisting large gatherings are coronavirus "super-spreader" events, has asked the court to enforce a public health order the church has defied for four weeks.

Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff held that the county did not meet statutory requirements and that the Court of Appeal's order did not justify a new temporary restraining order. It was the county's fourth unsuccessful attempt to obtain a court order prohibiting indoor worship services at Grace Community Church. ...

Amen, and the individual prayers of God's people are not less effective than the corporate prayers. The effectual, fervent prayer of a (one) righteous man availeth much.

Yes, the church should pray. The difficulty is how can a church pray corporately, when many churches are still not meeting fully, others are only running one Sunday service, with all the restrictions, everything else is online, and even home bible studies and prayer meetings are difficult due to the restrictions, in sone local lockdown areas actually illegal!!! In one lockdown city, one of my former churches, a very large building with a couple of hundred members, hasn’t been open at all since March, no online services, the elderly pass for had already previously retired, and no a second (local) lockdown has been imposed, and all these ridiculous restrictions. Communion is virtually impossible, baptisms are forbidden, as are most children’s activities, and all social meetings. It is a great pity that in March the churches had not made a stand j this issue. Now we know more about what is going on, we can and should stand against the fear being whipped up!!!

An exception is one church in south London, where the congregation have refused to observe the singing ban, and have sung the hymns and songs, though I don‚Äôt know whether they have gone in with the other rules or not. More typical is my church that I finally was able to visit for the 1st time since March with tape, sealed off pews one way systems,, no fellowship allowed, no singing, recorded hymns played over a loudspeaker, masks, etc., or even worse, a large church near me with big posters declaring Jesus as ‚ÄúName above all Names‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúNeed of our Nation‚ÄĚ, but had been totally locked up, and still is since March, (no online services either), and three photos of the pastor wearing a mask, with a text, ‚ÄúWear this for your own protection and for others‚ÄĚ!
And when will the church beg God to stay away this evil tide? "Resist the devil ... " This can be done through prayer
Compliance is all the modern church knows

Sure a pathological germ killing less than 0.02% frightening so much! Or, is there something else?

There’s only two groups who are hoping for a Covid outbreak, the county of Santa Clara, Ca. And Jim.
Covid is Not a static virus. There’s a very good chance we all have been exposed and have gotten over it. But to think that our nation has the best interests in its citizens is to believe in a pipe dream. I work 10 hours a day, as a teacher, with a very high risk group of students. Yes we wear masks, but Covid is air borne. So on the way home, my wife and I ate at Cracker Barrel and ate without our masks. Opening schools was a measure to provide a controlled exposure from students ( the host) to the middle aged adults (and old people too) . It’s a way of promoting crowd immunity. MacArthur’s church probably already has completed that mission.

I can't help but think that if a plague were sent by God for the purpose of punishment, it might just kill more than 0.02%. It does say a lot about a people when we are frightened so by something like this.

"Now if a deadly epidemic strikes, we should stay where we are, make our preparations, and take courage in the fact that we are mutually bound together (as previously indicated) so that we cannot desert one another or flee from one another. First, we can be sure that God‚Äôs punishment has come upon us, not only to chastise us for our sins but also to test our faith and love ‚ÄĒ our faith in that we may see and experience how we should act toward God; our love in that we may recognize how we should act toward our neighbor. I am of the opinion that all the epidemics, like any plague, are spread among the people by evil spirits who poison the air or exhale a pestilential breath which puts a deadly poison into the flesh. Nevertheless, this is God‚Äôs decree and punishment to which we must patiently submit and serve our neighbor, risking our lives in this manner as St. John teaches, ‚ÄúIf Christ laid down his life for us, we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren‚ÄĚ [1 John 3:16]."

We can only hope and pray that there isn't a covid-19 outbreak at John's Church. Sometimes you can defy the laws of nature, I've heard of instances of people jumping out of airplanes and landing into a snowbank or some such thing and not suffering death. We can only hope. John's Church has the same fortune as these people have had.

In any event his present behavior is not consistent with what John has preached in the past.

FredFinstone,

Are you implying, actually binding churches to a unconstitutional and unbiblical mandate to lockdown?
It may serve your own spiritual health to check whether the sulphuric burning smell is your own coattails or not.

I praise God for Pastor John MacArthur and his congregation at Grace Community Church in California, and the other pastors and churches that are making a stand there, and also in some other states.

What a contrast to here in Britain. There is virtually no resistance to the government requirements for churches, and has not been since March. Some have even at times exceeded the guidelines. An exception is one church in south London, where the congregation have refused to observe the singing ban, and have sung the hymns and songs, though I don’t know whether they have gone in with the other rules or not. Truly a Masked and Sealed church!!
