MacArthur says Grace Community Church ‘has duty to remain open’
Pastor John MacArthur of California’s Grace Community Church announced that his church would continue to hold in-person services despite state-mandated restrictions banning in-person worship services.

About two weeks after California indefinitely closed churches and other businesses in more than 30 of the state's 58 counties as part of its response to the coronavirus, author and theologian MacArthur has given a biblical basis for his decision. “Compliance would be disobedience to our Lord’s clear commands,” he wrote in a statement to the congregation on Friday. ...

Mike, John MacArthur really doesn't have a better reason since there's an Internet to carry services. I have no problem if a church can find some way to keep the virus out. I would think that more churches in California could have outdoor services than many other places could? It has a dry heat, so if you aren't directly in the sun it's even comfortable outdoors. Time will tell if John can get away with it and not have a lot of people catch the covid-19 virus ❗👎

You won't find me in any bars or churches until a good vaccine come out ❗ 👍

MacArthur and co. don't need a reason that would satisfy you or your political cell mate Newsom. They have the authority of a higher Authority. If only the churches who have all their theological T's crossed and I's dotted had similar backbone.

So this is who persuaded John MacArthur to open up--a woman who works for a political organization!

Rejecting the supremacy of governors’ orders over church-life doesn’t mean we throw caution to the wind. Wearing masks may well be prudent, as well as spacing out the seating in the sanctuary, and sanitizing the nursery sign-in screen.

Pastors must look after the physical wellbeing of their flock, but the ultimate authority on when and how churches meet is not the government. These decisions should be made by church leaders, prayerfully, and in accordance with Scripture and the leadings of the Holy Spirit. Whatever happens, His will for us is to trust and obey. The rest is in His hands.

Neil,
Interesting. I'll have to research that. I'll admit history wasn't my fave. topic in school bit I'm falling in love with it now. I think it's purposely made to be boring...an uneducated population is easy to control.

Jim, vaccines are harmful! The media suppresses this info. Go the the Highwire by Del Bigtree on YouTube. And there is already a cure for COVID! The media suppresses this too because they don’t want Trump re-elected!

You haven't had the problems California has because you don't have Newsom. As for the vaccine, go ahead and pray for it. No doubt God has been sitting on his throne, anxiously waiting to grant your request. Or, you could ask for mercy for your country.

California is a mess...high taxes, high regulations, earthquakes, illegal immigrants with all the crime that goes with that, yet high restrictions on owning guns to defend your family from them....it's a wonder Grace Church has not moved to quieter, more conservative place like Alabama.

Precisely, Mike. I wouldn't give you an ice lolly for Europe or any country within Europe. Nor indeed for any other country in the entire world. Since conversion, I am seeking something better, a heavenly city, something on the other side of Jordan, Beulah Land, way beyond the blue.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world....

I have severe issues with: MacArthur selling Bibles with his name on them, not believing the ending of Mark, saying someone can take the mark of the Beast and then flip-flopping without taking responsibility, etc, etc, etc...

Yet I'm glad he is finally standing up to open government oppression.
(Stand your ground old man; you were extremely fortunate enough to be taught by the solid KJV pastors of old, which are now a myth.)

The Constitution is toilet paper at this point; grab your freedom wherever you can.

Pews could be marked out like chairs in your doctor's waiting room, with 6-ft. spacing. Sure, it would limit total attendance, but how often does a church fill up the house--Christmas and Easter, right?
I read somewhere that the great majority of churches in the US have less than 100 members. I would bet those 100 do not attend every service on every Sunday. But their pews hold 100 or more, so there is plenty of room leftover.
So...why not just schedule 2 or 3 services to handle the smaller groups?

I will add that there isn't any the ticks are restriction on Church meetings in Nebraska and his church has been meeting with a physical presence. However, it has only been since it was allowed.so we can only pray that these churches that have physical meetings now do not have any outbreaks of the virus. So far we haven't had the problems that California has, but our rates have been going up for people who have caught it❗👎 We can only pray for an effective vaccine ❗👍😷

As for Wild West days, well the UK has some dirt in their past we can bring up too. Tis the way the world rotates.
The Opium War was by far the dirtiest thing the Brits ever did during that period.

British Victorians helped finance the railroad and ranching industries in the Wild West, and sold weapons to both sides during the Civil War (e.g. Enfield rifles, Whitworth breech-loading cannon).

Tip: Most Western movies are fables; look up historians instead if you want to learn more about the Old West. Much more fascinating, too. Fun Fact: many cowboys were actually from certain native tribes, those good with animals.
