Trump administration tells schools they can't stop teachers or students praying
The US Education Department is sending out memos to school leaders telling them that they cannot block students or teachers from praying in public.

The plans were revealed on the same day as President Donald Trump welcomed to the Oval Office a group of Christian, Jewish and Muslim students who have experienced discrimination in schools.

They met the US President to mark National Religious Freedom Day on Thursday.

In an announcement, the White House said that the Trump administration was "taking action to further safeguard students' constitutionally protected right to pray in school". ...

YIA, I disagree with your following statement that: “Yet what they teach is important, because it's possible to separate the Philosophy and Religion from practical and observable science.”

Separating the secular and sacred is really logically impossible. Whatever we humans do, say, or believe is affected by our religion or philosophy. A creationist scientist (they do exist, btw) will study the universe and it’s intricate design with God’s 6 day creation in perspective. Our worldview affects what we do, say, and believe, and vice versa. There’s no way around it.

*praising ungodly writers or figures)...

There are ways to gain massive amounts of knowledge and economic stability in a culture that wants to have some type of work assurance before they hire you. You can also get good grades without having to comprise your convictions (mine is a 3.3 GPA), and you don't have to spend huge amounts of money living on a campus to get the same exact education as they do. Online college is exploding in growth for this very reason. I should be able to graduate with the same type of degree, with the same type of knowledge, but without the on campus sin problems that so many of us young men fall into. I know within myself it would be a very hard task to avoid sin and study. So instead I think I'll just stay home, and study the same stuff through an online degree...

YIA says...
"I understand you don't become a doctor through home schooling, and must learn from secular professionals."

Well now, I guess we can discuss the college issue...

"Homeschooling" is only referring to those learning in high school and below. It has nothing to do with college, however, there solution to that as well...

The main purpose in avoiding government controlled education, is assisting the next generation to be free thinkers, trying to avoiding epi-centers of sin (drugs, immorality, and the other common public school issues), and learning in a Godly environment. I believe college or some type trade/licensing education is very important today, to be successful in our society...

I personally have chose the college route, and have never stepped foot on a college campus for learning purposes. I am working towards an engineering degree that is fully online, with the exception of going to a library/college testing bulding for midterm and final exams. It has worked very well, and I am learning from the same textbooks for chemistry, trigonometry, and geology as the students on campus. Back to your question on avoiding the wrong material in the textbook, I simply study extra to avoid having to answer problematic questions in my exams (evolution, supporting wr

I think that is a valid point in that online degree programs will not complete the training and education required for a medical doctor. At some point, we must enter the world to dwell fully within it. The question is when is that transition best? Is that time when children are newborn or toddlers, as there are calls for universal pre-school. Is it at kindergarten, elementary, high school? College? These questions many parents wrestle with, even those within the homeschool community in which we are a part.

Back to the original story - any time a government entity wants to encourage some sort of religious expression, I get nervous. Despite the Christians in the school systems and the best of intentions, the government is not the entity I want teaching my child about the Lord. We do not have the same common faith through much of society as was enjoyed about 100 years ago.

Still, not stopping an expression of faith is at least a recognition that, as a free people, we can speak the name of the Lord and speak to the Lord in public, including those students in public schools. It would be wonderful if that extended into the realm of public universities, but the scope of this declaration is likely aimed at K-12.

I do know the brain washing that goes on in education systems,

but at the same time I understand you don't become a doctor through home schooling, and must learn from secular professionals. I recently looked at the textbook that Bob Jones University uses for Biology: it's a secular, evolutionary, perspective. Yet what they teach is important, because it's possible to separate the Philosophy and Religion from practical and observable science.

Secular professionals that don't share our worldview, nevertheless we use their expertise everyday, be it Engineers who design our building so we don't freeze to death, Surgeons, Language experts, Movie makers, computer programers.

If we believers separate ourselves from these fields, they will indeed be taken over, and we won't even have a website like sermon audio, not to mention a reliance on the same unbelievers that we shun, and call ignorant.

Soumds like the homeschooled young men, BDF & JAG, ran headlong into the professional educator, YIA.

The whole concept of education in the US, perhaps worldwide, is a difficult one. Homeschooling is an incredibly viable option, and the number & variety of curriculum choices is huge. As homeschoolers ourselves, we very much approve and advocate for this approach. Fathers are command in multiple places in Scripture to raise their children. Ephesians 6:3 is my favorite verse.

But not every family can homeschool. A quarter of children in the US are in single parent homes. Many others do not have the resources. So there will be a public school option. Some parents even choose to put their children in public school forna variety of reasons from access to specific educational programs to the opportunity to teach them apologetics on the fly. Doing so means delegating that responsibility to raise children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Public schools are my last choice of options but are many people's only choice. Their quality often sets a tone in the community. They need to be as good as they can be.

Homeschooling is and should be a valid teaching tool for children in the family.

There’s plenty of great resources available out there on the Internet and in books for wanna-be homeschoolers. It’s not rocket surgery!

My comment from 56 hrs ago from another thread:

What is the real purpose of government anyway? Is it to tuck me in at night? Is it there to feed, clothe, bathe, medicate, finance, and educate me? The way some of you guys are talking one would think so. You are brainwashed by the Liberal Left. The government is not my mommy and daddy. The government is not my bank, my school, my grocery store, and my hospital. It was not originally meant to be any of those. It is the communist agenda that is pushing all that. Look at history.

I would vouch to say that though unbelievers are capable of very intellectual and academic achievements yet it is well nigh impossible for there to be a system of education produced by unbelievers that is devoid of their God-hating presuppositions. When you send your child to a sensual, perverse, godless school do you expect the teaching they are given to be completely neutral and without any godless conclusions? I would claim that there can be no complete neutrality in any system of learning especially when it encompasses science. It will either glorify the one true and living God or it will not.
Why would we subject our children to such hideous temptations by sending them through the public school system when there is such a good and biblical alternative? Homeschooling.

Just because we should be in biblical subjection to our current government doesn’t give them the responsibility to clean out our fridges, brush our teeth, or educate our children. Government only goes so far. I mentioned this in an earlier post; we have been brainwashed to think that the government is now responsible for everything in our life.

Thanks Just a Guy for wise thoughts. Parents have the responsibility and command to nurture their children & that includes academic education. Public, govt. ed has invaded and usurped parental rights - a fairly recent phenomenon in USA history. The public school is no place to raise a child whether they are allowed to pray or not!

Teaching is a vocation.

Plumbers teach plumbing.

Electricians teach children to be electricians.

Tradesmen should share their expertise with children for a future career.

School teachers - (A vocation) - of Maths, language, writing and science should be trained to teach the children in the community.

Schools are and should be a valid teaching tool for children in the community.

The Bible and the Holy Spirit teaches Christians to become Christians.

Parents are not always qualified to teach their children in all subjects, or in preparation for a vocation.

Because GOD does not provide that all parents will be qualified to teach.

This is reality in the human race.
Just because the non-christians do not comprehend Bible doctrine does not mean they are ignorant of academic subjects.

Governments are under the "authority" of God.
Hence:-
Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation."

Youth in Asia writes:
"If that is so, you do realize not every parents is emotionally, and spiritually equipped for such a thing, and infact can do much worse damage when their kids grow up not properly educated, for example cannot read or write"

Perhaps every parent isn't a "trained professional", but who loves a child the most? Parents. Who best knows what the needs of the child are? Parents. It goes on. Of course, there are bad parents out there who wouldn't turn out bright, successful people if they homeschooled. But look at the public school system. It's rotten. It processes children like cattle and now you have high school kids who are illiterate. Besides, nowhere does scripture sanction the state educate and bring up children. That duty is assigned to parents. Now, I'm not picking on people who attended public school for some or all of their childhood (both of my parents did). Obviously it wasn't their choice. As far as being "properly educated", you won't get a proper education from today's public schools and most private schools. You'll get humanist indoctrination shoved down your throat. If you ask me, I'd rather have kids that have only read the Bible and the catechism if my only other choice was government school.

My point is this...

Never in the history of the world, never in the history of the Scriptures, and never in any command of the Scriptures is the government given the responsibility to educate the children...

Because as we see today, when a secular government teaches the children, you get secular children. It is the role of the parent to train their children. This is seen in the same light as feeding, and sheltering your children in the Bible...

If you are not "emotionally and spiritually" equip for such a thing, then any future parent should consider waiting to get married until they are ready...

For those who are already parents, they should start to learn and grow themselves to be prepared to instruct their children under their own guidance. It may take a while to be ready for such a big step, but it is one that must be taken to ensure your children are truly "yours" and not another ignorant minion of a wicked government...

And concerning your point that they may not be able to read or write,
unfortunately, thousands of children in the USA have graduated high school without knowing how to read. When education becomes a conveyor belt filled with dumbed down children, and disconnected teachers your not getting anywhere...

That does not make any sense, care to explain yourself?

I assume you mean everyone should home school?
If that is so, you do realize not every parents is emotionally, and spiritually equipped for such a thing, and infact can do much worse damage when their kids grow up not properly educated, for example cannot read or write, or because of too much of a sheltered life become lost when they enter the real world.

Are you talking about private schooling? Just like seminary, it's a blessing if you can afford it, but we know most of us cannot. Should the church tax its people to make this cheaper or even free? Are you willing to pay 1000$ a month to the church?

There should be no prayer, no bibles, no teachers, or students in any public school...

Because public schools shouldn't exist...
