White evangelicals disagree with most Americans on religion’s influence on gov't policies
White evangelical Protestants hold views that are different from most other Americans when it comes to how much influence religion should have on government policies, according to a new poll that also shows white evangelicals are more supportive of the Trump administration's policies than other Christians and non-Christian groups.
The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Chicago released a survey this month that found white evangelical Protestants believe religion should have more influence on government policies than it currently does, while most other Americans believe religion should have less influence on public policy than it already has.
The survey includes responses from 1,053 adults polled between Dec. 5 and Dec. 9, 2019. The data carries a margin of error of 4.0 percentage points....
Technically, everyone will end up in Heaven—long enough to see if their name is in the Book of Life. If not, they aren’t staying. (No matter who you voted for...)
“And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally. ” So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.” And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.” Genesis 19:5-9

I had to look up melanin; stop that.
Anyway, I tend to agree with your thought about a falling away. I look at it as separating the wheat from the tares; IOW, the false cultural Christians from those who have been born again from above.
Absolutely right, Joel. What's more, Jim, popularity polls do not portray truth. Truth is not crowd sourced or deduced from societal standards or norms. Truth proceeds from the Lord, the One who established right and wrong, moral and immoral.
What has happened is that the younger generations have glommed on to the concept of not being judgemental. Which is fine, but we judge all the time...from soup can and their ingredients to someone else's behavior. Judge as you wish to be judged is really what the Lord said.
When I read the title of the article I immediately knew what Jim Lincoln would say. Sure enough, like clockwork, I found he was not only the first one to comment, but he shared his favorite link about forcing the kingdom on non-believers. I guess you would call that reverse persecution? Or maybe forcing someone to go to heaven? I wonder if you can force anyone to go to heaven or hell? If you can, it would be better to send them straight to heaven, knowing that it’s the better option! Wouldn’t you rather be forced into heaven than cast into hell, Jim?
Seriously, it is impossible to force religion on anyone. It is a belief in the heart. You can torture someone to believe or disbelieve something, but they won’t believe it until they believe it. They won’t jump off the train until they look ahead and see that the bridge has washed out no matter how much you yell at them. But do yell and scream, they may happen to look up and realize you’re right and jump out before it’s too late. Until the Holy Spirit speaks into their heart they will not pay attention or look up. Never. But do preach the gospel, because that is the way that God has chosen to warn the wicked of coming judgement. Nobody can be forced into or out of heaven or hell by men. God is the only one who decides that. And,

Religions don't vote, Jim. Christians do, though. If that is too much involvement in politics for you, because they tend not to vote for your left wing nut friends, oh well.
Philip Schwadel and Gregory A. Smith, Pew Research wrote: .... While white evangelical Protestants generally give Trump high approval ratings, that does not mean they have no reservations about him. An August 2018 survey found that roughly half of white evangelicals do not think that Trump has set a high moral standard for the presidency since taking office. Some prominent evangelical leaders, such as Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church, have expressed ambivalence about Trump and concern about some of his policies. Others, such as Beth Moore, founder of Living Proof Ministries, openly oppose the president....

Pew Research wrote: .... At the same time, U.S. adults are resoundingly clear in their belief that religious institutions should stay out of politics. Nearly two-thirds of Americans in the new survey say churches and other houses of worship should keep out of political matters, while 36% say they should express their views on day-to-day social and political questions. And three-quarters of the public expresses the view that churches should not come out in favor of one candidate over another during elections, in contrast with efforts by President Trump to roll back existing legal limits on houses of worship endorsing candidates....
