Texas megachurch votes to leave UMC
A United Methodist Church congregation in Texas with approximately 2,800 members has voted to leave the mainline denomination because of its debate over homosexuality.

Grace Fellowship UMC of Katy voted Dec. 15 to leave the UMC due to the divisive debate on whether to amend the Book of Discipline to remove language calling homosexuality “incompatible with Christian teaching.”

Jim Leggett, the founding pastor of Grace Fellowship, told The Christian Post in an interview Monday that his congregation wanted “to remove ourselves from the dysfunctional fighting going on in the United Methodist Church so that we can fully devote our energies to fulfilling the mission and vision that God has given to us.” ...

I guess 2,800 members makes it a 'megachurch' for Methodists.
As I do for every denomination, I wonder how many of those 2,800 folk could say what their 'denominational distinctives' are, so that someone accustomed to a Lutheran service or a Baptist service could understand what was going on.
I also remember a small controversy at a Methodist national gathering (not sure if 'convention' is the right word for it), where the women had arguments about makeup and hair styling--the Southern ones were in favor, the Northern ones opposed.

Jim, all compromise is sinful!

Now since there may in fact be circumstances where a woman will be called upon to preach a sermon or teach a class, let me address that thought process. Let’s say this lady loved the Lord and before getting married she attended the best bible seminary in the country. She graduated with honors and was an excellent orator. She and her pastor husband are on a missionary trip where he is scheduled to speak. He gets sick and can’t do it. Now should this godly, educated woman fill in for him? I would say no because nothing changed her gender and women are not to teach men.

The issues regarding the duties of Christian women are not based upon her abilities or intrinsic value but on their God given roles and the gender they were born with. When scripture discusses this issue, it doesn’t identify or hint at exceptions to their roles in life.

Romans 3:8 And not [rather], (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Adriel, I'm not quite sure you're pointing out to this church has women in prominent positions, but it does.

Do they have men on all the important positions? They probably do. Do they have women and some positions that men should be in? -- possibly

They might be walking a fine line, but being Southern Methodist apparently, they seem to be of a conservative mindset, which can be seen from the article that SA highlighted. They aren't IFB❗

Since they are joining another Methodist denomination the questions in my first post may not have to be addressed by them?

The UMC has compromised women by ordaining them for years, (1968) so if they can find ways around the Scripture doctrines then they have no reasonable arguement against the Liberalists/sodomites attack on the pulpit.

The FMC have been ordaining/compromising women since 1911.

Even the Arminian Wesley was easily convinced by the ladies.

For centuries Christianity has adhered to the Bible and prevented women from entering the pulpit. Then the satanic Liberalism ideology came along, overturned the Bible, and put the female into the pulpit.
Thus Liberalism has insulted the female by disobedience and worldly ideology. She is placed above the Law of God in Scripture to usurp authority provided by God to man.

Now this same satanic Liberalism seeks to place the sodomite in the pulpit.

1Tim 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety."

One should warn this church leader that his motives could be misconstrued. One might think he wants to centralize power and money into his own hands.

One thing that Methodist districts would do is move pastors around, so they wouldn't get such a personal following. Often this didn't happen of course. I wonder how this leader is going to keep the tradition of open books and the cult of personality under control?

I'm certainly not saying this congregation doesn't have reasons to leave the Methodist Church. Many congregations in the past have found reasons to do so. I do wonder how they plan to keep the financial records open, and avoid establishing cults? These would be intriguing questions to have answered⁉️
