'World's first' fully-electric commercial flight takes off
An all-electric powered seaplane has taken flight in Vancouver, Canada, in what the operators describe as a "world first" for the aviation industry.

The short test flight by Harbour Air and magniX involved a six-passenger aircraft fitted with an electric motor.

The companies said it was a first step to building the "world's first all-electric commercial fleet".

The push to electric could help slash carbon emissions in the high-polluting aviation sector.

Don't get too excited, Earth idolaters. According to Wiki:
"for large passenger aircraft, an improvement of the energy density by a factor 20 compared to li-ion batteries would be required."

For perspective, the radial-powered Lockheed Vega could carry six in 1927, back when mail contracts were vital in keeping American commercial aviation viable. I don't know the tipping point for electric planes, but it took the 32-seat DC-3 for commercial aviation to be really profitable (and this plane still makes money for some tertiary operators).

it will be interesting to see if Norway can get into the air again with their electric plane, since they have a strong desire to have electric commercial flights.🛩️
