Don’t Believe the Hype. Russia Is Losing in the Middle East—and Around the World.
In other words, Russia hasn’t really won Syria. And in any event, it wouldn’t be much of a prize.

The price for rebuilding the country, much of which has been reduced to rubble, has been reckoned at $250 billion—four times Syria’s 2010 GDP, according to the World Bank. That sum is way beyond what Russia can afford. As for future lucrative Russian arms sales to Syria, well, there’s the minor matter of how Assad will pay for them.

Russia’s gains in the rest of the Middle East have also been overblown. Moscow has, of course, been active in the conflict in Libya. But bringing order to, let alone achieving predominant influence in, a war-torn country featuring two rival governments; an ambitious military strongman, Khalifa Haftar; and a constellation of armed militias will prove a Sisyphean undertaking. Already, one of Libya’s governments has condemned Russia’s use of mercenaries there. Besides, ...

It looks like you're shifting ground to another absurdity. Is America supposed to invade every possible income source for terrorists? If so, then what about our buddy Saudi Arabia? Your favorite gangster Hillary Clinton, while Sec. of State, claimed its donors "constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide."

Could Spain rewrite world history? That’s basically the economy of Russia. They could if they had 1800 nuclear weapons ( and probably 300 unaccounted for) So, the problem isn’t if Russia is stretched too thin, the problem is when they start to collapse, Russia won’t wait for a command from Moscow to attack the west, a field commander will order a nuclear attack.

NO, DON'T BELIEVE THE FAKE-NEWS HYPE; THAT THE WAR IN SYRIA IS ALL ABOUT OIL; BECAUSE,

IT'S NOT !

THE WAR IN SYRIA HAS BEEN, FROM THE BEGINNING, ESPECIALLY BACK WHEN THEY BOMBED THE "FREGGITY" OUT OF DAMASCUS:

*A RELIGIOUS WAR !

WHEN ISIS WAS CREATED BY THE COMBINED U.S./ISRAELI/SAUDI-ARABIAN/VATICAN ESPIONAGE/SPOOK/SPY NETWORKS

FOR

THE VERY PURPOSE OF CREATING

GREATER-ISRAEL !

JUST ASK THE ISRAELI MOSSAD WHY THEY PERMITTED THE CREATION OF ISIS BY THEIR GENETIC ISHMAELI BROTHERS: THE SAUDI ARABIANS ?

FOR THE TOPPLING OF THE ASSAD REGIME--FOLLOWING THE SADAM HUSSEIN & MOAMAR GADAFI REGIMES & ALSO THE EVENTUAL TOPPLING OF THE IRANIAN SHIA/ISLAMIC REPUBLIC REGIME--TO PAVE THE WAY FOR NOT ONLY GREATER-ISRAEL: BUT THE ISRAELI-"JEWISH"-GLOBAL-GOVERNMENT OF THEIR SOON COMING "MESSIAH":

THE ANTICHRIST-"BEAST" OF REVELATION 13 !

"I AM COME IN MY FATHER'S NAME, AND YE RECEIVE ME NOT: IF ANOTHER SHALL COME IN HIS OWN NAME, HIM YE WILL
RECEIVE."-JOHN 5:43

OR ASK THE "JESUITS" WHY THEY CREATED ISIS ?

FOR THE PURPOSE OF DESTROYING ANY/ALL VESTIGE & PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF EASTERN/SYRIAN ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY &-OR PRE-TRIBULATION-RAPTURE/MILLENIAL THEOLOGY !

*ESPECIALLY THE WRITINGS/PROPHESIES/TREATISES/SERMONS OF ST. EFREM (306-373 AD) OF NISBUS, SYRIA !

Democrats say they believe oil is bad for the planet anyway. I think it is too, but for a different reason: it gives Washington fools a pretext to interfere overseas, e.g. Operation Ajax.
Even as we become less dependent on mideast oil, the call to protect oil we don't need continues. War is sooo profitable.

True, Adriel, about Syria
Martin Indyk wrote:
....
But he [Trump] had already made clear his intentions in Syria, or lack of them, over the past year when he repeatedly avoided helping Israel, America’s closest Middle Eastern ally, contain Iran’s encroachments there. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tried repeatedly to enlist Trump’s aid in establishing red lines in Syria against Iran’s establishment there of an air base, factories for precision-guided rockets for delivery to Hezbollah, and encroachment of the Golan Heights by Iranian-backed militias. Instead, Netanyahu has had to travel seven times to Moscow to beseech Putin for the help he could not secure from Trump. But absent Trump’s engagement, Putin has no interest in challenging his Iranian partner in Assad’s reconquest of rebel-controlled territories. Bibi’s appeals therefore fell on Putin’s deaf ears....

This was pointed out more than a year ago

The u.s. is there to protect the Syrian oil fields. Perhaps Russia doesn't have enough troops to do it?

If Syria isn't much of a prize why is the US military still there? If Syria isn't much of a prize why do the neocons want to confiscate their oil?

Actually there is a little more to it than that!

“Russia–Syria relations refers to the bilateral relationship between Russia and Syria. Russia has an embassy in Damascus and Syria has an embassy in Moscow. Russia enjoys a historically strong, stable, and friendly relationship with Syria, as it did until the Arab Spring with most of the Arab countries.[1] Russia's only Mediterranean naval base for its Black Sea Fleet is located in the Syrian port of Tartus.

Diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Syria were established in July 1944, and an agreement was signed in February 1946 ensuring Soviet support for Syrian independence ahead of the evacuation of French troops in April 1946.[3] During World War II, both countries were in the Allied side against the Axis powers.

In 1971, under an agreement with President Hafez al-Assad, the Soviet Union was allowed to open its naval military base in Tartus,[4][5] a facility the former Soviet republic continues to use to this day. On 8 October 1980, Syria and the Soviet Union signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.[6] The treaty runs for twenty years and has automatic five-year extensions, unless one of the parties terminates the agreement. “ Wiki.

Russia smart enough only to give enough aid, usually military force, to get what it wants.
