Welcome to Bar Church?
The founders of Bar Church are two couples in their early 30s: Derek Luckett and his wife, Natalie, and Nate and Amy Stone, all of whom had connections to Eastlake Community Church in Bothell, Washington, an evangelical megachurch that experienced a rift when its founder, Ryan Meeks, said the church would be “open and affirming” to LGBTQ+ people.

At first, “I was a fan of it because they didn’t talk about anything church-related,” Brown said. “I think that’s changed in the last few months, so my attendance has been down a bit.”

In a number of ways, this was not typical church. There was no mention of Jesus or the Bible until near the very end — when Nate referred to Jesus’ pattern of going away from the crowds to reflect and pray. It was not conversational either — the Stones talked for more than an hour, but didn’t ask those who’d come to share from their own experiences. ...

I skimmed the article. It's the logical "next step" for those churches who hold Bible studies at a bar over, ahem, "adult beversges."

Everyone has preferences in life and some like things extra casual. But there is such a thing as the Regulative Principle of Worship -- those things that make a church service a worship service. While Jesus calls both the pew warmer and the bar fly, nowhere in Scripture is it suggested that we seek the lowest common denominator. Instead, faith influenced behavior looks something like this --

For it is sufficient for us that we have spent the time past of the life, after the lust of the Gentiles walking in wantonness, lusts, drunkenness, in gluttony, drinkings, and in abominable idolatries. Wherein it seemeth to them strange, that ye run not with them unto the same excess of riot: therefore speak they evil of you. - 1 Peter 4:3-4

Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Now that religion itself has become so worldly, unBiblical and heretical its no surprise that the traditional church setting should be secularized and obliterated.

The idea of putting "God's House" in a bar harks back to the idolatrous practices of idols, statuettes, icons, effigies, and other forms of graven image and man-made religious muppets, hanging on walls around the congregations. They may as well join the Hindu religion.

Isaiah 44:9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. 10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?"

Errors in first comment...been, not "Ben" seeking. However, I am so sorry I can't find a real church. I not only miss hearing the true Word of God, but I deeply miss the beautiful fellowship true believers share in the church (real church) of God.

Too late, Dr. Tim. The world has for quite some time now, been dragged into many, many churches. I have Ben seeking a "real" church for a very long time, since the church I was a member of, the pastor moved from my city. I spend time on SermonAudio, listening to certain pastors, the few pastors who are preaching the true word of God and not the opinions of man. So many churches are dry bones in the valley. Members aren't friendly, no soul winning, watered down joke-filled sermons, or sermons mostly on tithing and giving money to the "church." People are dying and going to hell from these pseudo churches because Jesus and salvation are not being preached. This is a CRYING SHAME!

What’s next? Pole dancing? Jesus juke joints? How much of the world can you drag into the church before it ceases to be the church?
