‘Churches preaching the Bible are the ones that thrive’
Churches preaching the Bible as the word of God “are the ones that are growing” in the UK, a Church of England minister has said.

Revd Robin Weekes – of Emmanuel church in Wimbledon – made the comments in a stern riposte to comments from a former Bishop of Edinburgh.

Richard Holloway wrote in the Spectator magazine that Jesus was merely a “spiritual and prophetic genius” and the New Testament just an “untidy bundle of writings”.

John, I'm not very familiar with the 1662 Book, nor the 39 articles, but with a quick look I see they still go in for infant baptism, and in doing so claim regeneration for the infant(27th Article) because adults have spoken in its name. Extra-biblical at best. But with such limited input, my non-expert opinion would say the CofE continuing be some of both reformation and restoration. Then comes the question if restoration is to its own roots, while better than the poor Canterbury excuse for what passes for Anglican, is this better than restoration to biblical roots?
JT you are quite right. It is the whole baptismal regeneration thing which has clogged up Anglican congregations with unconverted and deluded people. They have religion but nought else.

A whole lot of folks have tried remaining in their church (of whatever stripe), hoping to better it, but very rarely does it work.

Thanks for the convo, and the Lord be with you.

Just thinking, I thought it may be wise to see what their church actually seeks to do, and calling itself 'continuing' as they do. It transpires that they want to restore the Anglican church back to its roots, which are: The 1662 Book of Common Prayer and the 39 Articles of Religion. So would that be a restoration job, or a reforming job? Several congregations have left Canterbury to do just one or the other.

Churches should never depart from teaching and preaching true Bible doctrine and should operate with a governing body which is aligned with Scriptural teaching. You cannot beat to death a Church which is based on pure Apostolic teaching, which possesses biblical sound and Holy Spirit filled Elders who know how to effectively feed the people of God

""Richard Holloway wrote in the Spectator magazine that Jesus was merely a “spiritual and prophetic genius” and the New Testament just an “untidy bundle of writings”""

Richard Holloway lived up to his name - He preached and taught the 'Hollow Way' in the Scottish Episcopalian church.

His religion was that of radical Liberalism therefore was not Biblical nor Christian.

So the fact that he clearly did not know The Son of God and just as clearly could not make any sense of the New Testament is no surprise at all.

Why he or anybody else identified him as a "Christian" goodness knows!! But how on earth he managed to become a "bishop" - is anybodies guess, and demonstrates how far backslidden the Episcopalians are.

The 'modernist' church belongs to Satan and sinners today. They preach the worldly ideologies and delete verses from the Bible which are inconvenient to sinners.

2Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."

Thanks for your response, Just thinking. If by restoration you mean a Back-To-The-Bible approach, yes, I am all for it. God never made the Bible difficult for believers.

Of course, some have, and begun a new church (continuing); but how much better to start again from scratch and do a proper fine tune on church structure and method, getting rid of the remains of Catholicism or tradition.

Yet, a church can be a bible teaching church but off doctrinally. They may state the very act of baptism saves, yet , they may preach from the Bible. And with the same breath, baptism saves and you can at anytime lose your salvation. Works, works, works. Not a time do they teach Christ alone in faith unto salvation. Maranatha !

"Churches like the one I serve, which seek to preach the Bible in line with the historic Christian creeds and the formularies of the Church of England, are the ones that are growing."

How on earth true CoE ministers can remain within the authority of Canterbury I do not understand. Why don't they all come out and let the liberal church die?

Of course, some have, and begun a new church (continuing); but how much better to start again from scratch and do a proper fine tune on church structure and method, getting rid of the remains of Catholicism or tradition.

Churches preaching the Bible as the word of God are the only ones that are churches. The other outfits are shams run by imposters for the pleasure of fakes.
