Duterte vows to resign if anybody can prove God exists

The Philippine president, who recently sparked outrage for calling God stupid, has courted new controversy in his largely Roman Catholic country by saying he will resign if anybody can prove that God exists.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who has had a thorny relationship with the church, questioned anew in a speech late Friday some of the basic tenets of the Catholic faith, including the concept of original sin, which he said taints even innocent infants and can only be removed through baptism in a church for a fee.

"Where is the logic of God there?" Duterte asked in a speech at the opening of a science and technology event in southern Davao city. ...

Wing it? I didn't say Jesus "probably" meant this or that like some people do. All of your arguments end with this verse:
But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Matthew 15:24
You're welcome.

. . .

I don't know what happened to the "I'm not a robot" verification but I think I'm done here till a better system is implemented. I bet I had to check 50 boxes to finally get verified and now I see I have to do it again because I wanted to add this comment and the verification has expired. GRRRRRR

Yet the spammers continue to fill the threads with their junk. Enough.

A bit of a history lesson.

The text says "house of Israel". The house of Israel points to the ten tribes of the northern kingdom while the house of Judah points to the tribes of Judah and Benjamin of the southern kingdom. In the OT, "Israel" almost always points to the northern kingdom after the reign of Solomon, when Israel divided into two kingdoms, and "Judah" to the southern kingdom.

After the Assyrian exile of the northern kingdom, the house of Israel was considered "not a people of God" as they were without covenant with God. Therefore, they became as Gentiles, uncircumcised in both flesh and heart. Probably why Jesus called them lost sheep and "other sheep not of this fold"; "this fold" being the house of Judah.

J4J, you'll never be able to make a convincing argument while trying to wing it through biblical terminology. Words and terms have meaning and the bible defines them. Your arguments are non-sensical.

Sure, he said that. I also believe that God loves the world. However, the earthly ministry of Jesus involved seeking after the lost sheep of Israel. He wasn't concerned with the Gentiles.

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:47

Jesus started His ministry in Israel (those He was sent to) and then His disciples carried it out to the rest of the world after Jesus ascended to Heaven.

I never said you were interested in winning an argument. It's apparent by your response that you are not.

But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Matthew 15:24

Who were the only ones that Jesus was sent to? What house did they belong to?

Hello wrote:
His own words to a Gentile!! Did He help her? Are there other instances where He ministered to Gentiles?
Yes, but that wasn't the main goal of His ministry. If He tells the truth to a Gentile, is it any less of a truth?!

Look at the example of the soldier who wanted his servant healed:

And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,
Luke 7:4

Why was that?

Because He came for lost sheep of Israel and the centurion wasn't a Jew, so they had to convince Jesus to heal his servant for a Gentile. The gospel is to the Jew first and then to the Gentiles, but He didn't go to India or China to preach the gospel.

John UK...

John, if reading all four gospels is too much for you, at least read the gospel of John, and you will find the answer.

Hello, aye aye.

I qouted scripture and it was not out of context, so I am not sure what you mean other than you don't like the fact that God was concerned first and foremost about the lost sheep of Israel.

Have a good day at church ya'll!

US Wrote:"As I do many times with my responses, I wrote one and let it sit before posting."

Good morning, US. I do the same, and have been for years. I can't even tell you how many times I've typed out some lengthy response, or whatever, sat on it, and was glad I did. I'll especially practice this when I'm typing in anger, or on a sensitive topic, and sitting on things at times in order to give it some additional thought, or even time to cool back down, often proves to be a wise choice.

As I do many times with my responses, I wrote one and let it sit before posting. Wisdom dictates I just need to let it go. Plus you have, as John UK indicated, added a new twist which seems to indicate you are not an avid reader of the Gospels. Have a good day down there in Atlanta area.

I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
John 10:14‭-‬16

Jesus knew His sheep and they knew Him. Those people were what we would call today Christians. His sheep were people who knew Jesus at that time. That's why He spoke in the present tense. However, there were other sheep, as I have shown you, who were given Him of the Father who had not yet believed in the Messiah. Those people were Jewish believers who believed in God, but had not yet been converted to Christ. They were the other sheep that were not of the Christian fold yet but we're going to be in the future. Not everyone heard and believed Jesus at the same time. Jesus said He was going to bring in other sheep using the future tense because it hadn't happened yet.
