Big guns from both sides defend pastor in bogus jury-tampering case
The libertarian Cato Institute advocates for liberty, free markets and limited government.
The American Civil Liberties Union is mostly on the opposite side in political disputes.
However, the two organizations are joining forces in a case that could set a precedent regarding free speech in Michigan.
It’s about the state’s prosecution of former pastor Keith Wood for handing out brochures about jury rights on a public sidewalk in front of the Mecosta County courthouse in November 2015 in Big Rapids, Michigan.
The ACLU is a liberal left organization headed by a homosexual. What does the bible say about the mind of a reprobate? 'And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient' Romans 1:28 Having a 'depraved mind' means one doesn't have the ability to reason/think/rationalize correctly. With that said, what bible believing born from above believer would ever defend such an organization or its leader?
Roger Baldwin, the founder of ACLU, stated, “I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself. … I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.” - source http://www.sonsoflibertyradio.com/the-dean/aclus-shameful-hypocrisy.html
Sounds like something a reprobate would think, say, believe and defend.
Gasp look at some of the unsavory types that the ACLU defended!
ACLU wrote: The ACLU of Iowa (2005) defended the rights of two teenage girls who were threatened with punishment by school officials after seeking to wear, for religious reasons, anti-abortion t-shirts to school....
The ACLU of Ohio (2002) filed a brief in support of a preacher who wanted to protest abortion at a parade, but was prohibited from doing so in an Akron suburb.

They sure are an outfit that no one wants to have anything to do with!
Wikipedia wrote: A major source of criticism are legal cases in which the ACLU represents an individual or organization that promotes offensive or unpopular viewpoints, such as the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, Nation of Islam, North American Man/Boy Love Association, Westboro Baptist Church or Unite the Right rally. The ACLU responded to these criticisms by stating "It is easy to defend freedom of speech when the message is something many people find at least reasonable. But the defense of freedom of speech is most critical when the message is one most people find repulsive."
You missed the point, the ACLU is a liberal leftist leaning organization, headed by a homosexual man that cares for free speech IF you are of the same 'stripe', meaning being a liberal. Now, since you sing their praises, I assume you take no issue with their agenda, or with the homosexual who heads that organization. You come here daily pushing godless agendas/organizations and live in a fog. Politics and satanic agendas will soon pass away, for Christ is coming. How much time do you spend pondering your eternal fate? Examining your life in light of God's word? Crying out for God to save you? Pleading for mercy and the new birth? All your effort goes into coming to SA multiple times a day and bashing those who oppose your views/agenda, namely Trump. You forget God is sovereign and has placed Trump in the position he's in, for His purposes and plan. You forget politics and liberal organizations will soon pass away, and so will you. You cannot see past the worthless things of this life, and that is tragic. May God grant you the new birth and true salvation, then Christ will consume you and not politics and satanic agendas.
Please tell me how Lbug what does the political stance of the ACLU really have to do if anything about representing First Amendment rights? I know Larry Ball personally. He is a conservative Christian. It also appears that the ACLU vigorously defended his Free Speech rights
Danielle Conrad, Executive Director [ACLU] wrote: ...We are disappointed by the decision rendered by a spilt Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals today. We will take time to carefully review the opinion and consult with our client, co-counsel and other First Amendment experts as we explore next steps. The Court did find that our client Larry Ball, a now 80-year-old Navy Veteran, was at all times “peaceful and respectful” while distributing his religious pamphlets.
We continue to be concerned about free speech outside of the arena because the policy that exists today is confusing and not applied uniformly. As a result, our client and others involved in peaceful expressive free speech activities near the city-owned Pinnacle Bank Arena are at risk of criminal prosecution....

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a leftist, secular-progressive organization. It was run for its first 30 years by an American named Roger Baldwin, who helped found it in 1920. Baldwin supported communism, but later denounced it in his book, A New Slavery, which condemned "the inhuman communist police state tyranny". This organization pursues a leftist agenda that includes censoring prayer and recognition of God in public institutions, such as public schools. Currently, Anthony Romero is the first openly gay CEO to run the organization. Declassified documents and letters link early ACLU leaders with Communist Party. Helen Chaffee Biehle also indicated in her article "Focus: The Seduction of the American Public Library" that the ACLU was also nihilistic and individualistic in its philosophy since its founding. from https://www.conservapedia.com/ACLU
“ACLU briefs are particularly important in free speech cases because, unlike a party whose speech is at issue, the ACLU has no particular interest in supporting or agreeing with the ideas expressed. Rather, the ACLU’s interest is that of supporting the guarantees of the First Amendment so that the freedom of expression remains protected for all of us.” ---ACLU, from the article.
The ACLU does have a good record of defending freedom of speech, even a type of speech that they probably don't even care for. I know they have done that in Lincoln Nebraska. đź‘Ť
