New research published in the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology found that peopleâs perceptions of what men and women find attractive are off. And even though many women decide to wear makeup to make themselves âmoreâ attractive, they may be overdoing it.
Researchers at Bangor University and Aberdeen University gave 44 women different types of foundation, lipstick, blush and mascara and then told them to put on makeup like they were going on a night out. The women were photographed before and after they put on any makeup. The researchers then altered the photographs so they had a range of 21 images of the women wearing various amounts of makeup....

Hey, no prob! It was meant to elicit that! My " persona" as that scribble notes, ones one of "oscitancy" Having fun in 2 ways
1-Writing as tweak to public schooled with no way of grokking flag "oscitancy" 2& tweak to those who won't read a story before commenting 3-&venting & marveling at "Lilly guiders" "To gild refined gold, to paint the lily, to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

To converse, Hugh, about the wonderful topic of revival/awakening, would be to me a great joy. Sorry to hear of your posts just disappearing; if ever I write a lengthy post, I usually copy it before trying to send, as it is very frustrating to lose the lot, and having to rewrite.

Brother, the clue is in the word "godly".
If I remember rightly, the two godly sisters were most mature, and when a preacher arrived on the island to begin the revival, they both said, "Oh no, you are not the preacher God has chosen for this time, you must go back."
This is a good example of what I meant when I said sisters tend towards subjectiveness. They were living close to God's heart, knowing his will, they knew this man was not the one.
I believe this is an area where some sisters are likely to be more discerning than men, simply because of how they are made.
But there is a reason why sisters are not permitted to teach or have authority over men; this is God's blueprint.
I have witnessed many sisters who get in a huff, through their emotions, and who say they are departing the forum. But when they have had a few days or weeks away, their balance is restored and so they return and carry on. Men on the whole do not have this tendency, being more objective.
John UK Can't say that I agree, I get it that The Lord made us different etc, but in my experience many many female believers think along the lines of many guys , and vice-versa. I can think of a few Godly women who deffo very much disagree with you brother đ But, hey man, believers will be agreeing and disagreeing with each other until The Lord comes back đ . Carol, apologies if I have offended in anyway ; I was simply musing as to why so few of our sisters comment on the various threads... Maybe John is right in his analysis!! The last revival in the UK was started because God prompted two Godly sisters on the Isle of Lewis to start praying for the same. Praise God they responded to His prompting . God Bless

Just because we are behind a computer screen does not negate God and husband honoring principles. But I do like to give encouragement, perhaps ask a question, or sometimes post what the Lord has taught me in His Word concerning the subject at hand. I do realize that there are some posters who will not agree with me but that's fine, we are all a work in progress as we journey to our Fathers house. Looking forward to meeting many of you on that great day.

Just to say, Hugh, that I believe it is because in general, women tend to think and speak and write out of their emotions rather than their affections. Objective things tend to get translated into subjective, and thusly, they are not able to control themselves inwardly, and that appears outwardly. And then they get upset with themselves, again not thinking objectively, and they get rather tired of themselves. And they imagine it is better for them if they don't post.
Of course, the answer is Jesus Christ, and living in him, under new ownership and management. And these things can take time, which is why the most godly and mature Christian sisters I have known, have been well into their 80's. Age is no guarantee of maturity, but in God's blueprint is a steady mortification of self, and an increased submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, that is IMHO.
Buckeye; thanks in particular for your first post on this thread. Dr Tim, dude, you are a hoot, just love your humour man. . Re women and makeup, less is definitely more. For every tattoo a female has it incrimentaly reduces her attractiveness as a person.... Particularly on the outside... . Just to say, one wonders why there isn't more women posters here on SA !!!
This reminds me of Joseph in Egypt. What was the thing he did to show to his brothers who he was? Maybe he was wearing a heavy load of makeup, or wig, which was required for anyone in a leadership position under Pharaoh. Another point is whether this 'scientific study' has percolated down to Wall Street. Have the stock in cosmetics makers taken a dive as a result? I kinda doubt that. I've seen online a 'before and after' comparison of famous people between say, their publicity photo (with lots of makeup, perfect lighting, background) and the one taken upon their arrest for a DUI.
The appropriate use of makeup which all agree is to be done in modesty is to draw attention to the womanâs face. In this day and age shouldnât we be encouraging something that focuses a manâs attention on a woman to the place it ought to be?
...As I quoted in my first post- â...(makeup) must be applied with modesty, discretion, taste, orderliness, and gender distinction.â It is much like the Internet- you can use it to feed lust and self-glorification or you can use it to serve others and bring Glory to God! Blessings!
@ Carol I agree 100%! If a woman is defying her God-given Spiritual Authority then she is missing the most important adornment of all!
Hello! The answer to your question is no, there are two very clear Biblical commands that address that: Deuteronomy 22:5 and 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
God commands that menâs and womenâs fashions be distinct. The heart of this command is also seen in the NT in 1 Corinthians 11. Exactly how this looks will vary from culture to culture. For example, in Ancient Egypt men wore a form of eyeliner to protect their eyes from the glare of the sun off of water and sand, and even today there are instances where a man may have to use products as part of his job. But for a man to do so in a feminine way gives the appearance of sexual perversion and is a violation of Godâs clear commands for distinction and abstaining from the appearance of evil.
Some women take off their makeup at night- my Mom actually puts it on in the evening specifically for my Dad. Some young ladies do use it as bait- I use it because my family appreciates it when I try to look nice for the day, even if we have nowhere to go. As for newlyweds, well, I think much more is revealed (on both sides) at that time of life then simply what the bride looks like without a dab of mascara and eyeliner!
