Mississippi Senate passes nation's most restrictive abortion ban,

After a heated floor debate, the Senate on Tuesday passed a bill 35-14 to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, bringing the state one step closer to enacting the most restrictive abortion ban in the country.

In a statement Gov. Phil Bryant reiterated his support for the measure.

"I have repeatedly said, I want Mississippi to be the safest place in America for an unborn child," Bryant said. "House Bill 1510 will help us achieve that goal, and I encourage the House to pass it and look forward to signing it.

Those sentiments were echoed by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves. ...

My wife and I read an email from Parentalrights.org last night regarding the plight of The Georgia Nine who were severely and horrifically abused by child protection social workers in Mississippi based on a false allegation. So Mississippi may be protecting them in the womb but all bets are off after the kids are born. They belong to the state at that point, even for kids who don't live there.

Vann R. Newkirk II wrote:
It was a cold March night when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. turned his pulpit towards health care. Speaking to a packed, mixed-race crowd of physicians and health-care workers in Chicago, King gave one of his most influential late-career speeches, blasting the American Medical Association and other organizations for a “conspiracy of inaction” in the maintenance of a medical apartheid that persisted even then in 1966....

...“Of all the inequalities that exist, the injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhuman.” In the moment, it reflected the work that King and that organization, the Medical Committee for Human Rights (MCHR), were doing to advance one of the since-forgotten pillars of the civil-rights movement: the idea that health care is a right. To those heroes of the civil-rights movement, it was clear that the demons of inequality that have always haunted America could not be vanquished without the establishment and protection of that right.

Mississippi Health Care certainly proves that point!

What's wonderful about it, just a guy? women can have a chemical induced abortion up to 22 weeks on their own!
Michael Stafford wrote:
More than 39 years after Roe v. Wade, [2012] the pro-life movement has reached a nadir. Despite the fact that over half [less than half in 2017] the United States self-identifies as "pro-life," little tangible progress has been made in the fight against abortion.

This is due to both the pro-life movement's failure to be a consistent defender of human dignity across a broader range of issues and to its increasingly close association with the Republican Party.

The GOP is often described as America's pro-life political party. In reality, however, the GOP is not pro-life. At best, it's merely anti-abortion. At worst, it's simply misogynistic. Regardless, the Republican Party's concern for human dignity ends the moment someone is actually born. After that, it's the coldness and cruelty of Ayn Rand and social Darwinism, all the way down.

The idea is to incrementally implement restrictions until you restrict the murder mills right out of business.

Abortion is still being supported as long as it is not performed after 15 weeks.

Well Jim, this should not make you angry at all. Mississippi still says a woman can murder their unborn children up to 15 weeks.

You do realize that God's laws trumps man made laws.

Instead of universal health care, how about just making abortion illegal.

One should not only read the Clarion article that S A has but see the link that's inside to this other article in the Clarion Ledger:
Anna Wolfe wrote:
The state ranked 49th for behaviors and 44th for community and environment — both in which Louisiana came in last — 47th for policy and 48th for health outcomes.

Mississippi has the highest infant mortality rate of any state with 8.8 deaths per every 1,000 live births.

Of the 35 countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, only Turkey and Mexico have higher infant mortality rates than Mississippi.

The health ranking report said Mississippi's rate of babies born underweight — still the highest rate in the nation at 11.4 percent of births — decreased in the last year.

However, according to the 2017 March of Dimes Premature Birth Report Card, Mississippi's rate of premature births is rising, 13.6 percent this year, up more than half a percent from 2016.

They certainly show the need for Universal Health Care!
