Pope wants Catholic opposition to death penalty increased

Pope Francis called Wednesday for categoric opposition to capital punishment to be written into an update of the most important guide to Catholic teaching.

His comments, which will be controversial with many fundamentalist Christians and some Catholics, came in a speech to clerics attending a conference in Rome to mark the 25th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The catechism is a question and answer guide to what Catholics should think about a wide range of moral and social issues. ...

Another difficulty. Why should hard working law abiding citizens, have to house very dangerous and often demonically possessed men and occasionally women, who have committed the most horrific crimes, proven beyond any shadow of doubt, in prison, even if sometimes that is a whole life sentence, and which is the more normal case, in my country and in Europe, where the death penalty is banned, spending millions of pounds, dollars, euros or whatever the currency, and then even worse, in countries where life sentences do not mean life, where there is a risk of these very dangerous people going out again into the community.

Of course if there is some doubt, or there are some extraordinary mitigating circumstances, then a long or even whole life sentence may be the most just thing in that particular case.

However we should always remember that the Gospel can be preached to those on death row, and many a man or woman has responded and gone to his or her execution, fully repentant and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for his or her salvation.

This same 'pope' also warns against 'worldliness' -
He says "The Crucifix saves us from the charms and seductions that lead us to worldliness." So, he is relying upon some 'relic'. He also warns of demons! This 'demon' dressed in a white clown suit complete with his white 'beanie' cap - minus the propeller, is warning against 'worldliness'. Yet, he made 28 mil this year! {source -} and the RCC is one of the wealthiest Satanic organizations. Hypocrisy is rampant in that dead religion. This man is indeed anti-Christ, dressed up and playing the role his father Satan has given him.

A little bit rich from this Jesuit Pope Francis, as many of his more distant predecessors had their own unpleasant variants of the death penalty, involving burning alive "heretics", and they had their own "police force", the Inquisition, mainly composed of energetic and zealous friars, who were experts at torture and tricky judicial processes such as revealing the full evidence against prisoners, let them know who their accusers were, and even defending themselves were unknown!!!

How to put evil away from among you as recorded by God.

The Word of God states:-
Deuteronomy 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. SO THOU SHALT PUT THE EVIL AWAY FROM AMONG YOU."

Romans 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; FOR HE BEARETH NOT THE SWORD IN VAIN: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil."

All authority comes from God.

I might as well give a bonus and give the sermon that is on Sermon Audio for it. (The Pope and the Papacy).

Charles Spurgeon on the Pope wrote:
It is the bound and duty of every Christian to pray against this Antichrist, and as to what Antichrist is, no sane man ought to raise a question. If it be not the popery in the Church of Rome there is nothing in the world that can be called by that name.

Popery is contrary to Christ’s gospel and is the antichrist and we ought to pray against it. It should be the daily prayer of every believer that the antichrist might be hurled like a millstone into the flood and for Christ, because it wounds Christ, because it robs Christ of his glory, because it puts sacramental efficacy in the place of his atonement and lifts a piece of bread into the place of the Savior and a few drops of water into the place of the Holy Spirit. And puts a mere fallible man like ourselves up as the Vicar of Christ on Earth. IF we pray against it, because it is against him, we shall love the persons though we hate their errors. We shall love their souls though we loathe and detest their dogmas. And so the breath of our prayers will be sweetened because we turn our faces toward Christ when we pray.

Liberal Theology, that twist & spins scripture against its own-self, that lefts up man-kind, in saying their is a spark of inner goodness left in one. Regardless if one is spiritually apart from Christ. Leaves one in what 1 Chro 16:26, says! I like how the Romans roads, people never use, Rom 1:18 in it, & Rom 10:9-10; was never meant to be used as Sloppy Joe Grace, of easy believism, of no counting the Cost! That comes with it, obedience; MK 8:34-35 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,& take up his cross, & follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake & the gospel’s will save it.

1 Chro 16:26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.

PS 96:4-5 For the Lord is great & greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.

Liberal 'Christianity' is just as spiritually dangerous as the dominionist movement, neither save the soul. The bible does not mandate the elect to be politically involved or motivated Jim L. That is YOUR opinion, and your 'god'. I wonder if you ever have an original thought

Eschatology="The doctrine of the last or final things, as death, judgment, and the events therewith connected."

Soteriology="2. (Theol.) The doctrine of salvation by Jesus Christ."

The Christian Right Movement is a disaster for the mission of Christians! ' "The Reconstructionist movement and its allies and offshoots, by substituting political and cultural action for the proclamation of the Gospel, by substituting eschatology for soteriology, and by mangling the Gospel itself, have become tools of Romanist political action" (3/02, The Trinity Review).' excerpt from, Notes on Reconstructionism. Conservative Christians are overlooking The Deadly Dangers of Moralism and of political action. Dominion Theology/Kingdom Now/Reconstructionism is an anti-Biblical curse. "Christian" Activism? (Dominionism -- A Summary)

A short list of why a Christian should be an Independent politically. I should put the above up more often.

And you are bearing false witness again Jim Lincoln - if only you could comprehend God's truth and tremble at your own vileness. Since you are void of the new birth, you are clueless to what it means to 'fall into the hands of the living God'. Your low view of sin, YOUR sin, proves such.

You are like many, you 'cherry pick' verses to 'fit' your ear tickling doctrines. You declare yourself 'saved' based on your 'profession'. Yet, your 'fruit' is rotten; remember if the fruit is rotten, that evidences a bad tree. God will cut down such trees. Yet, you do not tremble at that

You and John Y have one thing in common - you both evidence you are dead in trespasses and sin, as your fruit displays. You come here, as he does, daily, to push a Satanic agenda. You are another one SA would do well to block from commenting here, disrupting the brethren, and causing division. Your greatest need is for God's grace to save you. You have been exposed for what you are, instead of falling on your face and pleading with God to save you, you resort to grade school tactics and falsely accuse - which is S-I-N. This is why you MUST be born again Jim Lincoln, and you are clueless to this new birth. Examine your OWN heart Jim, for in it lies ALL kinds of vileness that defile

Pontificating again I see, pastorette lbug.

Everyone should know about the Roman Road!

The Roman Road
Romans 3:10
As it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one."
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
Romans 10:13
For "Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved."---NASB

But the thread was about the death penalty not a generalization --an important generalization I will agree--but John Y., was at least on topic.

Francis is totally off of his rocker. The Bible sanctions the death penalty for first degree homicide. Second degree homicide or any other degree of homicide other than first degree homicide does not merit the death penalty.

It's amazing how one's political affiliation is used as an excuse by Jim Lincoln to continually degrade, belittle, pass blame and attack. Politicians, members of organized religion, housewives, plumbers, drug dealers, murderers, etc. - they all have one thing in common----- IF they have not been born again by God -they are DEAD in trespasses and sin. Is it because of political or religious affiliation? Or based on their job [or lack of] affiliation? Nope

The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, who can know it? Jer. 17:9
What lies in the human heart Jim? In your own heart? 'For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies" Matthew 15:19
You do realize falsely accusing me, which is what 'false witness' refers to, means you are defiled, according to the teachings of Christ? You are in unrepentant sin, Yet, you worry yourself constantly about OTHERS, mainly Trump and the Republican party. Will God hold you accountable for their actions, or will He judge you based on what lies in YOUR heart? How tragic you spend what little time you have left worrying yourself over man-invented political games, yet overlook the greatest need --- your eternal fate.

The biblical command is to repent and believe on the Lord!

Thanks to the number of Catholic judges and governors the death penalty is about dead. Many of them I might point out are Republican.
David Von Drehle wrote:
The shift is more pragmatic than moral, as Americans realize that our balky system of state-sanctioned killing simply isn’t fixable. As a leader of the Georgia Republican Party, attorney David J. Burge, recently put it, “Capital punishment runs counter to core conservative principles of life, fiscal responsibility and limited government. The reality is that capital punishment is nothing more than an expensive, wasteful and risky government program.”
