Researchers Explore Pornography's Effect On Long-Term Relationships
Married men and women who use pornography are more likely to get divorced than men and women who do not, researchers say. Porn is a driver in making relationships worse, increasing the divorce risk.
Here's one measure of how much time people are spending viewing online porn. Just one leading pornography website says people spend 4.5 billion hours there. New social science research explores how pornography affects long-term romantic relationships. Our co-host Rachel Martin talked with NPR's social science correspondent, Shankar Vedantam....
Hi Carl, thanks for the update. People continue to pray for you and your dire situation. Did you decide to bypass speaking to a Pastor? I'd stay away from your average Psychiatrist/therapist. They are fully of this world, and most are either atheists or into metaphysics. You really should find a Christian therapist if necessary. There are sites where you can read all of the bios to find a qualified one. I understand the need for meds in certain situations, but only very short term. Anti-depressants work different for different people, and then if you finally find the right one that takes the edge off, there's still the matter of getting the dosage right, but messing with brain chemistry can backfire, so I would try all natural and homeopathic paths first, even pure essential oils can be of help. Do some research.
Hi Stevenr, yes, technology has allowed that disgusting business to grow beyond the producers of the filth wildest dreams. Unfortunately, the children now have easy access to the most base, degrading, and disgusting of things that most of us probably still haven't seen...thankfully.
The problem we face is pride. I have counseled with numerous young men with a pornography addiction, and the problem is it's accessibility. Almost everyone carries a smart phone now, and with a couple clicks… Since over 57% of websites are pornographic… They can have unlimited access to anything their flesh wants. I have an iPhone. I got my phone for one reason, and that is because it has user settable restrictions. When I first got it, I had my wife restrict anything with any access to anything that might contain— anything… Which humorously enough, means I can't click through to read the entire articles without her there to allow it... better safe than wrong though
It's about time the secular press picked up on the epidemic of horror that has afflicted our nation. Horribly evil & destructive, it is twisting entire generations and leaving families and individuals ruined in its wake. May the Lord did not only our churches but our society from this evil. Yet I fear, considering Europe, that it will get much worse.
A recent scientific study showed that NPR--the source of this study--is right one percent of the time. Who wants to follow a left-fielder who bats .010? Although they may have reached some partially correct conclusions in this interview, chances are they'll get it wrong entirely in the next 999 segments they air.
