Apple's head of design says some people 'misuse' iPhones
The downsides of smartphones being such addictive and entertaining devices are starting to become obvious. If you live in a city, for example, you're probably used to seeing "smartphone neck" — people buried in their iPhones on the subway and the sidewalk.

The problem is clear to parents who sit down to dinner with their kids only to have them buried in Snapchat and "Clash Royale" the entire time.

It's clear to iPhone users who turn like Pavlov's dog anytime they hear the iPhone notification sound, even when it comes from someone else's phone.

Eventually, Apple is going to have to come up with a clear and coherent answer to questions about iPhone overuse. It's going to be asked more and more of Apple executives at every public occasion. ...

So many selfies and immoral acts are recorded with this device that the iPhone should be relabeled the "i"dolPhone! And I'm sure Apple's execs have long been aware of their devices "misuse." The upcoming iPhone X will be a big "success" especially to college students who would rather spend a $1000 on one of those than help their parents pay on their ridiculously high college loans.

Ezekiel 14:1-5 KJV  Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.  (2)  And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,  (3)  Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?  (4)  Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;  (5)  That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

From the news:
":Eventually, Apple is going to have to come up with a clear and coherent answer to questions about iPhone overuse. It's going to be asked more and more of Apple executives at every public occasion. ..."

It's no more Apple's fault the phone is misused than it's GM or Ford's fault that some drivers drink. The dumb idea that a device or the company that makes it is responsible for its misuse fits right in with the whiny no-responsibility culture.

Addictions come in many forms. We do ourselves a disservice to assume that some are benign because the benefits outweigh the risk. The statistics on mobile online use, especially in children, are staggering. It may take a few more years before we truly see the effects of this new thing on our culture.
