The Protestant Reformation of the 16th Century was a remarkable display of God's power to destroy the works of darkness with the Gospel of Christ. Its effects are still being felt in the Church today and we owe the Reformers a great debt for their contributions to the preservation of the Gospel. But how did the spiritual state of Europe come to the point where there had to be such a sweeping reformation in the first place? The answer to that question is easily found in the Word of God where we discover that the need for a great reformation in the Church was not limited to 16th century Europe, but can be found from ancient times. A careful look at those times when God stepped in to reform and revive his work will also lead us to the conclusion that the Church at present stands in need of another move of the Lord to reform and revive His work.
