Thanks, SA, for posting that story.
It might be good to post something like that on a regular basis.
There are many people surfing the web and looking up anything, especially sermons related to difficult Bible verses.

Does any person's church matter? Does everyone in every church believe a 'party line' one hundred percent? Do they even know what the 'party line' for their church is?
I do not think so. I think many people attend church because their parents or spouse force them.

I hope it all goes well with them, though I can't think of any project from the agencies that are cited in the article as providing funds for his further research have ever done anything significant. It sounds like, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" but I do think we need to ask what is the track record of anyone giving advice or funds. Even the billionaire George Soros lost money in the stock market while his company--who manages his 30 billion dollars--did better.

I wonder if the notice said they should wear brown shirts and come prepared with rocks to break windows of store-owners that are Jewish. It would be a repeat of Germany in the 1930s.

Makes you wonder what is next-lower the age of consent?

I am still waiting to see the Miami Dolphins fans protesting in the streets against the New England team. Isn't the tradition in the US to protest in the street when you lose?
And, in my area at least, I have not seen any great throng of people in the supermarket shopping for all the food and drink marketed for the game. I think the Dolphins fans are organizing a boycott of the game. I even doubt the usual sports bars will be full for the game.
So churches--at least in this area--should be full of people for their evening services tonight.

I've seen other articles saying the constant use of smartphones makes people less able to communicate face to face. At restaurants you can see people working on their phones more than talking. And then they take pictures of the food they are eating.
I think the first poster is correct in that they are time stealers, esp. facebook where you have to keep up a page with your interests. Everyone has hobbies, but do we need to create an 'online presence' to show everyone what they are?

Interesting note, esp. since the big March for Life is set for tomorrow. I think the Catholic Church is a big sponsor of it, which some Protestants have problems with. I think Ovadal here at SA has messages on the wisdom of cooperating with them on any issue.
I also think the mainstream media is looking for any reason to find problems with the new administration. Too bad they didn't apply the same rule to the Obamaa and Clinton Administrations.

Maybe this will be the first year that there will be any media coverage of the march, though I have a feeling it will be about how narrow-minded the participants are, and how old-fashioned they dress.
It is amazing to see how many changes that Trump is making. It is unfortunate the media has taken such a negative attitude because it assures them of their disappearance from most people's lives.
Few people watch TV live anymore, and few of them watch the main network's evening news program. I have taken to watching the daily news from Tokyo, Japan that is broadcast over the local PBS station. But even then, there is a bias to not say anything negative about Japan. Last December when Obama went to Hawaii, they didn't say it was the Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, but 'the attack that brought the US into the war.' They rarely cover their attacks on Korea and China, yet they still want Russia to return a few small islands on the north side of their country that they did invade and 'conquer' towards the end of the war.

I couldn't figure out what cigar smoking in the last comment posted had to do with Mary Tyler Moore, so I will keep on topic.

I was surprised to find her on the Dick Van Dyke Show because I thought that was so ancient--it was still black and white.
And I thought how much younger she looked than him, but then I considered how Hollywood has always cast younger actresses with older men. Even the Andy Griffith Show, with 2 older single policemen being the stars, had their girlfriends played by much younger women (and I never figured how why they couldn't marry--it would have made a much more interesting plot).
What is more surprising is that Dick Van Dyke is still alive--at 91 years old, which means there was only an 11 yr difference between them on the show.

I hope one of our brethren will remind Breitbart News to cover this subject next year. Will the headline be, "Religion's Plummet Not Changed by Who's in the White House?"
Didn't Jesus complain of the religious leaders of his day-he called them 'whitewashed tombs' that were looking good on the outside but dead inside? Thus religion might look good on the outside--high attendance numbers, dress suits and ties for the men, long dresses for the women---but what is on the inside?

I look forward to the Inauguration, just like I enjoyed staying up late on Election Night to see how the different mainstream media channels were reacting to the result. I hope to see a pro-American celebration, with no special treatments given to tiny minorities like the homosexuals that only are 2 or 3 percent of the population. It's time we do things that are good for the majority.
And it is unbelievable that the PBS news folk are still upset about Russians hacking the election, when in reality, the hacking only showed how badly Hilary's group treated other Democrats like Sanders.

I think this group is a minor fly in the ointment that will be overwhelmed by the large number of Trump supporters that will be there. Of course, the mainstream media will play up any dissension and not show the large number of supporters. I think last week's press conference was a great start to show people who is in charge.

I wonder how they are going to enforce this in the 'sensitive zones' around Paris that are mostly Muslim, where the uniformed police will not enter. Alas, Charlemagne's great victory over them has been forgotten!

I think this shows you how far the US culture has strayed from any notion of what the Bible teaches, though it does not surprise me that Barna is the source of this study. Maybe no college sociology department is interested in doing it.
Barna's studies usually show negative things for the organized church, which may be why he wrote a book about a revolution in how churches are organizing.
I do not blame the messenger because I think the study is right. It is like a headwind into which the traditional teachings of chastity and purity have to go. Dave Ramsey, Christian financial advisor and the third highest rated talk show host in the US, speaks against this every time he runs across it. Who knows if it makes any difference--after all, if you can get the milk for free, why pay for the cow? So people will do whatever they want, despite his advice.
Another aspect of this is the decreasing value young people place on sexual purity, but some could argue--with all the divorce out there, no wonder they do not have faith in the value of marriage, a piece of paper notarized by some govt official?

I don't think the bishop has ever heard of Jefferson, Madison, or (Jimbo)Lincoln.
I have heard of his church, though. It is probably larger than many denominations in the US. I have seen its branches here in lovely and warm Florida (yes, even in Spanish).
I find it fascinating that they elected him at all. But, as it says, probably in Proverbs 32, 'all politics is local' and we don't understand the specific conditions in Rio. I have heard of problems with crime, drug gangs, that even affected the Olympics.
In that country's big business-oriented city, Sao Paolo, where the traffic is so bad that the rich fly around in helicopters to get to their business meetings, they are building a replica of Solomon's Temple. It might be the same church.

And I was just watching the news report about the death of the King of Thailand. They showed the Crown Prince, who will be designated by the govt to take over as King, giving some offering to some Buddhist monks in their orange robes. (I guess those are good for their part-time jobs as School Crossing Guards!). What I thought was strange was that he won't be allowed to take over as King until the dead king's body is cremated in October!

I have heard the same problem exists in many places in western states. If the EPA really wanted to crack down, they should publicize all those places, too.

California-the land of fruits and nuts!
I see the article is from a Washington DC newspaper, and not a California one. I would like to see their coverage.
Also, California is the state that provided Hillary her popular vote majority when considered nationwide. But it didn't help her win because she only needed 1 vote more than Trump to win the state, not 3 million more. Those extra votes, if put in places like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and North Carolina, would have given her 270 electoral votes and the election. So I am glad we have the electoral vote system to prevent large Leftist states like California and New York from dominating more than what they do already.
I think their next step will be to lower the age of consent.

That there is any conformity of marriage vows in Italy is news to me; in the USA, people long ago started using vows they made up on their own, and church weddings went the way of the cassette player.

People get married in parks, at beaches, etc. The minister is no longer needed, just a Justice of the Peace or someone similar (shades of the Andy Griffith Show there!).
Thus, who knows what is promised in vows today. You cannot assume that a married couple has the same vow as you may have made.

And that is assuming we are talking about getting married. How many couples out there are 'living in sin' even retirees who get more money from Social Security if they do not marry, and do not have all the complications of which offspring receive which assets when they die.
I don't even know if the Census Bureau has made a count of all the couples living together without being married. It would be hard to do since many adult children still live with their parents.
I saw an advice column in the newspaper with a question from a 50 year old man living with his mother, asking about how to get his nephew to learn proper table manners. I thought the question should be--is it time for me to leave my mother's house?
