Great Sermon! While I have mixed feeling about the tree I will ALWAYS appreciate Biblical fallacies being debunked by men of God who put in time in the trenches. I trust this lover of the Lord to celebrate Christmas in a God-honoring way. Thank you for the great post, Bro Greg. |

Reply to Jersey's comment Hello Jersey from Canada,
I am NOT speaking for brother Cooley nor am i a member of Old Paths BC - just to be clear - but there is no invisible universal church. The church is the local assembly. Yes there is ONLY ONE "BRIDE", and Chirst is coming for His "Church"...but the Body of Christ is MADE up of "many members". Read 1 Corinthians 12 (specifically 12:12-20)and also in Romans 12 (specifically 12:4-5). Also, word "ekklesia", translated "church", literally means "gathering" or "assembly". All local assemblies around the world where born again believers gather together are themselves the individual members that make up the Bride of Christ. The letters written in Revelation Ch.2 were to actual, physical churches, and are there for our admonition, exhortation, reproof, instrustion in righteousness, etc. But the point is that the visible, physical assembly of believers is what constitutes a "church"...each one being an outpost of the gospel, as ambassadors for Christ, all are members of the Body. This is definitely a subject that should be studied out and understood scripturally. Remember, an invisible Universal church can't baptize believers, can't minister the Lord's Supper, can't practice church discipline and put disorderly brethren out. Hope this helps. God Bless. |
