John, I understand your concerns completely. And I share them. Ultimately I simply pray that Christ will keep and protect His church till He returns.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about this.

John, Thank you for the verse. Very helpful. By the way, I didn’t say God’s blessing meant my church was right, just that he won’t stop using a church because they sing hymns.

Actually come to think of it, my dads gun is a modded semi auto, still the point holds true.

Depends what you want it for. My dad has an AR in his house. If you break into his house and by some miracle make it back outside, he can take your kneecaps out from his bedroom window. When the founding fathers penned the second amendment, the people had the exact same weapons as the army. Thomas Jefferson believed it was essential for a people to be as well armed as their government if they wanted to maintain true freedom.

Oh I see. I will pray about this and see what God would have me do. One final question. Where can I find the instructions on corporate worship in the scripture. Most of what I see in any Christian church, I haven’t found yet in the Bible. Including a service where the pastor gets up and preaches to the congregation. I’ve seen where early Christians preached in public, to the lost. Not saying it isn’t there, just haven’t found it yet. the lost, but not to each other. What I do find is that together they helped the poor, fellowshiped, and exhorted each other. Not one man gets up and preaches at the rest for an hour, three times a week. Honestly, I want to please God but I think he looks more at our hearts. I don’t think this topic is the most important thing and like I said at the beginning, I wish Christians would spend more time praying together and reaching the world than arguing. Also God is doing a mighty work in our church right now and many have been saved, prayers are being specifically answered and God is mightily blessing, so singing hymns apparently doesn’t make God stop using a church.

John if you tell me what about my question is unclear I’ll do my best to clarify it.
I’m not sure what exactly those principles are but my pastor uses traditional hymns that use major emphasis on melody (which stirs the soul) and harmony (which stirs the spirit) and little emphasis on rythym (which stirs the flesh)
I do believe God had given instruction on how to worship him. God gave Moses directions on how to worship him, including singers, but I see no record of the songs he told them to sing. Or when they came out of Egypt, God had not given them any song to sing yet they did sing and God was very pleased by it. So much so that he references it later in Hosea 2:15. They made up music to praise God. So did Deborah and Barak. If God was pleased with it then, why not now?

I believe that singing psalms is wonderful and special but I still see no scripture that says to only sing psalms.
Can you answer this one question for me please with a simple yes or no.
Do you believe it is a sin to sing anything other than a psalm to praise God?

Had to interject here. To Jim Lincoln. Sorry bro but your argument from Albert Dagar’s quote falls flat in the first seven words. “As the GOVERNMENT of the United States†“as it has IN ITSELF no semblance of enmity†Our government is not allowed to get involved with religion at all. They are not allowed to make any laws respecting any religion. The only thing you are proving is the fact that our founding fathers did not want a state religion. They wanted freedom of religion.

Us Christians would be in trouble if they did mental health checks, they think we’re all crazy anyway. 😜Seriously though Adding restrictions on who can buy guns is one of the first steps to disarming the people. I’m all for not giving convicted felons guns, but when you start including stuff like unpaid traffic tickets it goes downhill fast. By the way, there was a time when I didn’t pay a parking ticket because I messed up the date. The irony of adding more gun laws is that only law abiding citizens will obey them. If they made a law banning guns only the good guys would give them up. All the bad guys would keep their guns, and there would be WAY more gun crime than before. I agree crazy would still find a way to kill. Side note, Cain killed Abel before guns were invented. Anything can be used to kill.

I’m sorry. I don’t know what answer you have given over the years so I would really appreciate it if you could restate it. I don’t know of anyone who believes that the hymns we sing are inspired. But I’m honestly asking if we can only sing the original words, why not the original tune?
Also something else I was wondering about, Jesus gave us an example for prayer. Should we only pray and worship God with words taken straight out of the Bible? If we pray from our hearts with our own words is it wrong? If not, is it wrong to put the same prayer to music? Personally I believe God cares more about the thought and intents of the heart, which only he can discern. I honestly want to please God so if there is some scripture you can give me where God says it is sin to sing something other than psalms to praise him it is sin, I will change what I believe.

Just a little side note, while the psalms are inspired by God, unless you know the original tune David sang them in, all the music was written by uninspired men. The same applies to the rhythm.

That we should only sing psalms is not in the Bible. Rather it says to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
(Eph. 5:10, Col. 3:16) implying that there is some difference between the three. It also says to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15 among many others) so precious souls don’t go to hell. If Christians would spend more time praying together than they do trying to prove their point, we would turn this world upside down through Christ. John UK if the Holy Spirit has convicted you to only sing Psalms then by all means make that the standard for your family. If you are a pastor then that is how you should guide your church. But ultimately, it must be God who gives each child of his the standards he wants for their life.

Higher Education has become a profit center and the longer students are in the more $$$ they make. Therefore colleges welcome remedial students because that's where the $$$ is.....and the longer students are in school the longer they put off marriage and the less children they will have. The Father of Lies loves it when a plan comes together!

Pennelope,
Geff asked about Trump, not George W. Bush. No one said anything about Bush. Geff, however, asked you about Trump.
