Lurker wrote: R.K. Borill is correct in quoting 1 Cor 15:1-4 (Christ crucified) but what does that mean?"Tell me if you would, what is the Gospel, in your words." Love thy neighbor as thyself. (1 John 1:1-4, 1 John 2:7, 1 John 2:24, 1 John 3:10-11, 2 John 1:4-6) How is "Love thy neighbor as thyself" the Good News? That is a commandment for those who already believe the Good news and are saved. You are joining those who corrupt the simplicity of the Gospel in order to sound "deep" and "philosophical" (Colossians 2:8). "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:3 |

LIsa wrote: Which one is the gospel? I need to get it exactly right as if i get it wrong i can be labelled a false preacher.Thats the whole point-the gospel is a mystery....So how do you preach it???? You seem to miss the fact that Paul says he is preaching the "revelation of the mystery." (Romans 16:25) It WAS a mystery but it's not any more. It was revealed in Jesus Christ and preached by the apostles and all true preachers for 2,000 years. Paul tells us exactly what the Gospel is, for example, in 1 Corinthians 15. Verse 1 says, "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel..." Not "a gospel" and he doesn't STILL call it a mystery. He then says (verse 2) that we are saved by BELIEVING the Gospel. Then he gives us THE Gospel in the next verses: "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; "And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." And, yes, you had better get it right or Paul says you are "accursed". "As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:9) |

Don Thierman wrote: Gregory, ... Most of the time you will not find "you shall do this..." language. ... The methods don't matter and there is no magical prayer, but asking Jesus Christ directly is what matters. Isn't, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." exactly what you're saying the Bible doesn't do? How can anyone who has read the New Testament miss that? Time after time, the Bible says, "BELIEVE." Why add to God's word? Why add, "Ask Jesus in your heart..." when the Bible NEVER says to do that while saying, "Believe..." Derek, you are correct. And I preach that a believer must confess the Lord Jesus. But that is in now way, shape or form related to the idea of "asking Jesus in your heart," like Olsteen, 700 Club and others preach. Mormons "ask Jesus in their heart". But they do not actually believe the same Jesus that we believe and they do not trust his death, burial and resurrection for eternal life. Asking Jesus into your heart is as Biblical as claiming to eat Jesus in the "Eucharist". Modern Christians use the Bible like a "suggestion box". |

JHawkYou seem to be comparing apples with oranges. Whether I am called to Sudan, China, Venezeula or Muletown... is a question of GEOGRAPHY not whether I will obey the Lord's commission to preach the Gospel. Regardless of WHERE I am called, I am commanded to preach to every creature. It may not be door to door. It might not be screaming the Gospel on a street corner. But it will be something... and it won't just be in the tiny little circle in which you "live your life" (Acts 1:8). I am sorry, but the extra-Biblical heresy denying the great commission to PREACH the Gospel by saying, "I witness with my life" just has to stop. Matthew 10:27, Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 9:60, Acts 5:42... These say clearly that preaching the Gospel with WORDS is what God uses to reach the lost. There is not a single example of a New Testament Christian coming to Christ by "actions and how they live life" alone. Paul & Silas literally opened the door with their actions, but they had to speak the word of the Gospel for the jailor to be saved. Acts 16:25-34 Again, I can't imagine standing before Jesus Christ and seriously expecting excuses such as "personality" or "gifts" to excuse me from obeying His commandment (Mark 16:15). |

I just returned from a trip to "the streets" of my town. I was accompanied by my 3 daughters (ages 14, 12 & 10). We distributed 45 door hanging bags containing a Gospel newsletter, CD message and Gospel tract. We celebrate our opportunity to serve the Lord together. My wife distributes Scripture cards, numbering into the hundreds each month. Some she hands out as she witnesses to people at her place of employment, at grocery and clothing stores, etc. She also puts dozens on car windshields and hands them to restaraunt employees in drive thru's and with tips. This is what our other church members do. Each in his or her own way. One of our men hands out the Gospel cards on his bus commute and while walking through town. My point is, everyone should be involved in "street ministry" of some sort, unless they are truly incapable for physical and/or mental reasons. If a person is "able-bodied" and mentally stable, I can't imagine standing before Jesus Christ and seriously expecting excuses such as "personality" or "gifts" to excuse me from obeying His commandment (Mark 16:15). It's the very least we should do. What "gifts" are required to tell a lost sinner that Jesus died, was buried and rose bodily, conquering sin and death. The elect will respond! |
