Maybe he meant this verse: "Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts." (Proverbs 31:6 KJV).
Did I read this story wrong or is this guy just having a bible STUDY in a pub? What's the big deal? If you don't want to drink, make your own groups: Water, the Word and Women or something. More people are addicted to caffine so we should not have bible studies in coffee shops lest we cause someone to stumble (and I mean that as tongue in cheek as I can). It smacks typical of the tee totalers to condem people and not the sin - with no Biblical reason to deny those who partake of the blessings of the fruit of the vine. Jesus's first miracle was to make absolutely fabulous fermented drink. Too many on this board would condem His actions as spurring on drunkeness! You miss the blessing! How sad!
I know that the christian community generally abandons anyone who speaks out against homosexuality.Examples of this are Anita Bryant,Reggie White and most recently Miss California. But I didn't know that a catholic could be fired for teaching catholicism.
Getting back on-topic here if I may. There seems to be a distorted view today of what constitutes hate speech. An example would be the video of the new black panther party member,on a public street, with a microphone shouting racial slurs and talking about killing "white crackers and they babies". Where's the outrage or the mainstream media coverage on this. It's almost nonexistent.
It is a shame to politicize this disaster and turn it into a reason to pass legislation for cap and trade or carbon taxes or whatever, while in the meantime,we here in the gulf are having our environment ruined and jobs taken away by shutting-down offshore drilling.
