Of course this is a good thing. However;they are overlooking the issue of Abusive Congregations. Many times in canidating as a pastor for a church, it turns out to be rather one sided. The church holding all the cards so to speak, and treating the canidate as if they are doing him a favor by even considering him.

Sometimes many congregations act as if the pastor were there as their pesronal errand boy, rather than a spiritual leader sent by the Lord. Some if honest, would say "We want a leader to follow us where ever we go". Sad to say there have been far to many instances where there has been violence directed toward a pastor that would not go along with carnal minded deacons. I pastored a church in which one of the deacons would bring a gun to the meetings, deacons would yell and cuss at me and other deacons. It's too bad and accociation cannot affect any change.
I have godly friends that have come home to find that their belongings are out on the street and the locks to the parsonage and church have been changed. All due to some secret meeting that had been held while that pastor was on vacation.

No job, no place to live, and threats of violence. That is also abuse.

Very Irreverent. The Thanksgiving for the racing products came very near to the Praise of said products. But the comment about his "Smoking hot Wife" was way out of line. A man should protect the dignity, modesty and reputation of his wife.

This "I like releveant preachers" is just another way of saying "I want God, and the gospel on my own low class terms.

Pastor Rick,
What verse(s) did you cite?
Thank you,

Good question: Regarding the parents that were upset; Mt. 18:15-20. Which lays out the principle for dealing with difficulties. Before going to the word, the family wanted to know "Where a Pastor got off correcting anyone?" After taking them to Mt. 18, their response was "I know that's what the Bible says, but that's not what it means" Every verse the elders and I gave them that was their response. At that point we realised that we had no basis of communication with the family if they denyed the meaning of every scripture we gave them.

Needless to say, this is a growing problem in church services. Unfortunatly, many people are getting let go from their jobs as well for texting while they are supposed to be working. Parents, Teachers, Pastors and others need to help reinforce basic manners.

Well; that's about I can add to the subject. Got to get ready for Prayer Meeting. That is where the real work is accomplished, in Prayer and the Word.

God's Blessings

Just this past Sunday, two girls were texting during the entire service. Since my sermon was on Challenges to raising Responsible Children, i dealt with the texting addiction and how people were doing it in inappropriate places and times. Of course the girls never heard a word of it.

When I first came to my present church, I dealt with a teenager for over nine months about texting in the service. I spoke with her and her parents on several occasions. Finally, I let them know that if it happened again I would stop the service and deal with it. Of course, she texted the whole service, and I held true to my word. Result: The parent screamed and accused me of impropriety for about 45 min. Then left the church along with about 40% of the congregation.

As far as looking bible up on cell phones: Cell phones may have the Holy Bible on them, but cell phone are Not Wholly Bible. It's easy for someone to start woth a phne bible, and get a text and; off they go. We provide pew bibles. If anyone needs a bible we will give them one. A hard copy, not a soft one.

I am in complete agreement brother. The problem in not just in the SBC, nor in County seat churches, it's everywhere. If it's not the problem you described, it's about programs, games, and entertainment. I've patoring a rual church since Feb. When I came I told them the same thing about the ministry of the word. At first it sounded great to them, but now there is some tension developing over it.
Maybee in American Churches we are more of a missionary than a biblical Pastor. I know that's a sad testimony to our churches. But hang in there, and don't change your approach
