“ Great Sermon! '30 Pieces of Silver' author ” Our family loves listening and learning from John Weaver's sermons every week. We're so glad glad that we have this resource of Biblical teaching, in addition to our local church family. We used to live in the Atlanta area but didn't find his broadcasts until moving away. While in Atlanta we came to know and listen to Theocracy, a Christian rock band out of Athens Ga. Theocracyband founder, Matt Smith, authored the poem that John quotes at the end of this sermon, '30 Pieces of Silver'. It is the exact lyrics to one of the songs off off their 2011 album 'As the World Bleeds'. Their discography is filled with Biblically based lyrics throughout that rock and melodic metal fans will enjoy without compromising. No doubt, it is top quality musicianship with a Christ centered message.
The problem with Osteen is his emphasis on self as in "Your Best Life Now." It seems that his message continually reinforces the "self" versus the "dying to self" of the Bible. The "self" is the problem and any preaching that points people back to the self is more of the problem.
