Come on, Jim, answer my question. Don't post a link & please don't quote Gil Rugh or James White.
You believe your NASB (and other modern 'versions') to be God's Word in the English language. The manuscript base that these versions rest on didn't exist until a little over 100 years ago. Much of what's contained in them was discarded by others for very obvious reasons.
So where was God's Holy Word up until then? Did God hide it from His Bride for centuries for some reason?
If He cared enough to be concerned with the very jots and tittles, surely He cared enough to preserve it for His children since our eternal destiny depends on it!
So where was God's Word before the NASB, Jim? Be specific. Don't be ambiguous, glib or trite. Try to answer with your own thoughts and beliefs, not someone else's.
I can answer the question with absolute, 100% certainty. Let's see you take a swing at it.
Jim, You keep saying the same thing over and over and over again and I'm pretty sure you haven't changed anyone's mind.
The AV translator's did indeed want God's Word in a form that every English speaking person can understand. The problem with your 'new translations' is that much of what's in them IS NOT GOD'S WORD. Why does this seem to go right over your head? The AV translators were not translating from a corrupted text base.
Where was God's Word before your NASB came to be, Jim? Please answer this time.
"Now think about it folks. Every sermon preached in the evangelical world is based on the word of God, yes? But why should I listen to sermons preached by Bible doubters? Effectively they are saying that they can only HOPE that the words they preach from are God's words."
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your posts here and the excellent job that you do presenting the argument for those of us who understand the importance of adhering to a sound, trustworthy Bible!
Your post that I've quoted above really gets to the very heart of the matter, doesn't it?
Like John, I also read the Authorized Version myself, and study it exclusively, because, unlike Jim Lincoln, I am aware that it is THE WORD OF GOD, and therefore I have no need of any other.
I also know of several auspices of an organization here in the U.S. called Bearing Precious Seed which publishes REALLY nice editions of the AV exclusively and sells them for half (or less) than what the religious prostitutes like Nelson and Zondervan sell their corruptions for. This is in addition to the good old Trinitarian Bible Society which publishes the AV exclusively and gives away loads of them.
I believe most people who actually still read their Bibles, read the trusty, time tested AV.
I apologize, Joe. I realized I should have addressed it to jpw later when I re-read it but it was too late to edit.
It was actually intended to be helpful. Many people believe that those of us who use the AV exclusively don't think the Bible should be offered in any other language besides English. Not true, though. A well translated Bible based on the proper manuscripts in any language is a wonderful thing!
I believe the King James Bible that I hold in my hand to be the actual, true Word of God in the English language.
Do you believe your NASB to be the actual, true Word of God in the English language?
Don't post links. Answer the question. Clearly and concisely. Don't go around the world. Answer the question.
I know where the true Word of God was before my KJV came to be. I can trace it back through the centuries.
If you believe your NASB to be the real Word of God, where was God's Word before it (the NASB) came into being? It differs greatly from the KJV in MANY places so it cannot possibly have the same pedigree as the KJV so where was it for all those centuries? Do you believe God was hiding His true Word from us for all those centuries?
If the NASB is NOT God's Word in English, what is? The NIV? The NRSV? But they cannot all be - they all differ greatly. So where is it? Where has it been hiding? The 'originals'? But they are long gone! Has God been playing a shell game with us? You may think so but I certainly don't. I believe He has preserved His Word for His sheep. Do you?
Answer the questions, Jim. Don't post links. Answer in your own words with your own thoughts. I know what James White & Gil Rugh think. What do you believe? And why?
I believe that those who complain that the AV is too difficult to read or understand are just making excuses.
Why is it that so many millions of people in centuries past have read the AV and grasped it's message with no problem? Why has it suddenly become so difficult to comprehend? Has everyone just become incredibly dumb? Have we all lost our reading comprehension skills? I don't think so. Rather, I believe people have become Biblically ignorant due to the proliferation of new 'translations'.
Thomas Nelson, Zondervan and Tyndale have spent millions (if not billions) of dollars in the past 30 years to convince everyone that they are incapable of understanding the language of the King James Bible. Why do you suppose that is? If the advertising didn't work, believe me, they wouldn't be spending the money.
The AV is the crown jewel of English Bible translation. It has mostly one or two syllable words and if you think about what you are reading (AS GOD INTENDED) it is very easy to comprehend and joy to read. It will literally be a blessing to your soul.
I'm not going to jump into this argument because I believe every point that can be made has been made on this and other SA Bible version threads over the last few years. You obviously have your own (or Gil Rugh's) opinion and you will not consider any reasonable refutation.
That said, you need to be careful what you say here. If God's hand was indeed guiding the development and preservation of the AV - and the evidence is STRONGLY in favor of that fact - you are treading on VERY dangerous ground. If the Holy Spirit was involved in the inspiration of the originals (He was) and the preservation of the translation God has honored for 400 years (He is), you are playing with fire. Mark 3.28 & 29.
Laugh at me if you want but you need to think seriously about what you are implying.
I agree with Rick. I do not understand how anyone who understands what the Saviour has done for them can watch that blasphemous trash. And, no, I've never seen an episode. All I know about any of those cartoon shows on Fox is what I've seen in the news.
