I was never able to find the document online anywhere that the original report talked about.

I expect what Dawkins said is being misunderstood. His book "The God Delusion" has a lengthy section where he explains "The Poverty of Agnosticism" which anyone interested in Dawkins' position needs to study. Dawkins writes in a rambling, word-salad style that is difficult to summarize, since Dawkins rarely makes clear points. His position is basically: "Either [God] exists or he doesn't. It is a scientific question; one day we may know the answer, and meanwhile we can say something pretty strong about the probability." Dawkins does not believe it is possible to say God does not exist (since that would be proving a negative), but the probability that God exists is, to Dawkins, so low that for all practical purposes he is an atheist. Almost a distinction without a difference.

I think a healthy skepticism about this is warranted. We've seen time and time again how sensationalist claims are made about some find like this, shrouded in secrecy, before a book is launched. By the time the claim is debunked, the book has sold a lot of copies. While I hope this is not another pump-and-dump book, there have been so many blatant attempts to make money off of sensationalist claims that I think the burden of proof these days is on whoever makes the claims to back them up.

A fragment of a Christian gospel, the word of God, should not be withheld from Christians in order to make money for someone writing a book. This fragment should be shared as widely as possible so that all Christians can benefit from it. There is nothing stopping a scholar from writing a book about the fragment, but keeping part of the word of God secret in order to make money from it is not right.

Without some sort of proof, we don't know. I do not understand why anyone would give money to an organization that provides no financial transparency at all. Not just TBN, since most high-profile ministries these days solicit donations but provide no information about what they do with donated money.

Occasionally, some information spills out into the public, but what bothers me is the overall lack of accountability of ministries which solicit donations but don't tell the donors where the money goes by providing financial statements.

The Anabaptists built web sites to track people's personal health information without disclosing any privacy policy at all? (danielplan.com) And endorsed pop-culture health quacks?

Smart guy. If Parsley followed the way he has done things in the past, Tebow's image would be used for Parsley's own fundraising.

The irony is that the copyright restrictions on modern Bible versions have kept the KJV alive and well in the new century, since it's the only version of the Bible you can put on a handheld device (or in software like E-sword) without paying a copyright holder an excessive amount of money to get the rights to use their text.

And it's not just the KJV, I've seen this with other texts. Since almost every edition of a public domain text created since 1930 is still under copyright, the world is starting to basically ignore the entire 20th century and use 19th century editions of texts, which are out of copyright, for digital editions.

The reality of all-but-perpetual copyright has basically caused a lost century of scholarship, because people are ignoring works produced in the 20th century which will be under copyright likely in perpetuity.

Copyright holders are hoist on their own petard, to use a 16th century phrase.

What's wrong with this picture? "urged that those marking the holiday in poverty, suffering or far from home not be forgotten...the central aisle of St Peter's Basilica...wearing resplendent gold and white vestments...life-size nativity scene...should remember those less fortunate"

While "a ray of God's kindness may shine upon them", I don't think a penny of all this extravagant, lavish wealth will get to the poor and unfortunate. This is one case where leadership by example would help. The Pope should stop calling on the rest of us to renounce and sacrifice until he begins doing so himself.

Given IE's less than stellar track record with security, this is a good thing. Newer versions are better than older versions. Most new security flaws are now in plug-ins, not the browser itself. Other browsers already do auto-update, so MS was late to the game in rolling this out.

This is hardly a panacea, however, with pirated versions of Windows and corporate Windows installs that don't auto-update at all.

Many corporations wrote custom in-house software that depended on IE6's non-standard extensions, and many of these corporations can't move on to modern browser versions because they can't or won't rewrite their custom software.

You can't really give kudos to MS for doing this, since they're responsible for IE in the first place. You can't really hand out attaboys for someone helping to fix a disaster that they perpetrated in the first place. IE's bugs and incompatibilities have held back the web for a long, long time now, and it's been a security nightmare. Microsoft has addressed both of these issues with recent versions, however, so they get some credit for that.

All you need to remember is that the public schools are funded by state lotteries, and teach math, a conflict of interest that can't be overcome.

If my thoughts controlled reality, I would quit exercising and just think I was exercising. Yet that doesn't work. Positive thinking "works" as long as reality isn't involved.

Reality probably doesn't mean what I think it means - Osteen is probably not going to be talking about the total depravity of man and how we need a substitute to take our place for our sins...

Wow! This is an exciting new feature for e-Sword. I have an older version of e-Sword set up under WINE in Linux - it works great - this may make me upgrade.

Anyone who hasn't used e-Sword ought to check it out, particularly for the integration of the Bible text with study resources like Strong's, Matthew Henry, etc.

Since atheists are about 2% of the population, wouldn't they expect to have "bias" in the culture? I ought to complain about the "bias" in bookstores where 2% of the inventory is philosophy books, and most books are how-to or fiction.

What "discrimination" is going on, anyway? America seems to give atheists more than their proportional share of attention, especially with people like Richard Dawkins pushing the atheist agenda in a visible, public manner.

A "secret meeting of pastors"? Reminds me of a verse. "Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known." Matt 10:26
