Yes, "Dr. Tim," plenty of time to get your Easter Tree, your house decorated, gifts bought, cards to send, chestnuts to roast, sleigh rides, and some guy coming down a chimney.
I think it was the Puritans who outlawed all celebration of Christmas in New England, which might be why there are very few Christians there today. I think even Harvard Univ was established to train young men to be preachers.
The setting of the date for Easter is one of the most complex of all the calendar dates, (has something to do with when some Jews celebrate Passover, which has to to with the full moon, so it begins to look like a Muslim holiday in that aspect) though I think it would be nice to celebrate Washington's Birthday on his actual birthday.
I think we all know it was Charles Dickens who helped popularize the way Christmas is celebrated today, and when you read his 'Christmas Carol' story, it brings up ghost stories which I never heard of being part of any Christmas tradition.
Yet there is such a mix of other countries like Germany, Netherlands, France, etc. adding in to the mix.
Of course, the Bottom Line--does anyone get converted by all this celebration? Does anyone find Jesus as Savior in all this? I certainly pray that some will.

I recommend that you read his book, "More than a Hobby" to see how the business was built.

If the water fell on any tobacco plants, which would be made into cigarettes, they would be called, "Holy Smokes"!

I hate to add anything that would help promote recognition of Christianity Today magazine or website, since its readership is probably less than Motor Trend or Crotchet Today magazines.
But...I cannot resist commenting on the truth revealed here, that there is an 'elite class' of evangelicals who some might say are Liberals in Sheep's Clothing, or Liberal Wannabe's.
I can even imagine the editor thinking up this editorial at a cocktail party with a bunch of Dems and others suffering from TDS-Trump Derangement Syndrome, and wanting to please them, he thought up this article.
In the end, Truth Will Out, and just like the impeachment has improved President Trump's rating in many polls, it will backfire.
A previous comment noted that this guy must think of the majority of President Trump's voters as uneducated..yes! That is exactly what makes him feel better--that he can put them down for not being as educated (that is, in university learning, not in real workaday life).

Just over 8 hours to go and it's all gone. It's only one day, and having it arrive midweek brings this out, but people won't notice it until they go to work tomorrow.
I did watch a couple church services this morning that SA aired live. I thought, these people are definitely 'swimming against the current'
I believe that most people do not have a "Norman Rockwell painting" type of Christmas celebration, and in the newspaper around this time of year there are many articles about dealing with 'difficult' relatives at the Christmas dinner table.
There's an old saying about fish going bad after 3 days that also applies to any visit from family.

I did see an article in my local newspaper about this little 'dust up'
I think a sense of perspective is needed: the magazine has very few subscribers and evangelicals who read it are very few.
I think the editor made these comments to get attention to the magazine and website.

And do you remember the cholera outbreak in Haiti, shortly after the UN peacekeepers were sent there? It was traced to their own septic systems, contaminating the water wells.
So, UN looks bad not only with cholera, and now with this story. By the way, in many countries, fathering children with girls under age is a crime, punishable by time in prison. Do you think any of these guys will be sent to prison?
No wonder, in black communities in the US, a common sign (besides the 'cold wine and beer' ones), is 'DNA testing' because women there have so many 'partners' they can't tell who the father is!

I wonder what the editor of CT thought of Rep Alcee Hastings, a former judge who had been convicted of crimes, being involved in the impeachment procedure.
And, do they think that Joe BIden should be impeached for getting the Ukraine authorities to fire a prosecutor who was looking into a business his son was involved in (which son, by the way, has 0 experience in that realm, kinda like hiring your pastor to perform your next colonoscopy, and paying him $50,000 for it!), under threat of holding up US aid.
Or do they think Hillary Clinton should be tried for letting Americans die in Libya?
No, we know the answer, CT is a leftist magazine. Period. No further discussion needed. Might as well read CNN and NY Times for your info on 'religion today.'

How did they distinguish 'Christian' children from others? Did they use the Westminister Confession or the Heidelberg Catechism? The Apostle's Creed?
I doubt this story very 'mucho' as they say in Mexico. How can you compare families across countries? Does the same rating agency exist in all of them?
You cannot even compare infant mortality rates, since in many countries, a recently born baby can die after a few days, and is not counted.

Thanks for that brief history of revivals in the US. Wasn't there one in England as well--the Great Welsh Revival? I've heard some stories about its effects--bars had to close, crime went down, etc.
Though in the case of the Puritans, you need to include their persecution of other Christians, even 'tar and feathering' people like Quakers who happened to come into their jurisdiction.
Today there are thousands of denominations, and some poorly labeled, like that 'Evangelical Lutheran' and "Christian Scientist' and some say that every time a local church has to decide on changing the color of the carpet, there will be a split. A friend told me that one church that changed its hours of service lost members since the 11am 'Traditional' service worked better for them to go to lunch afterwards; having it at 9:30am just did not work (maybe they don't like brunches?)

Once again, the key word "British" or "UK" has been left out of the headline. What happens in that country has little application for the US.

I would prefer to see an article from the New York Times written by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, apologizing for the farce that this impeachment process has been, and saying she should have stayed home, taking care of her grandchildren, because she is finally acknowledging the truth of the Bible when in 1 Timothy 5, guidelines are given for older women.
I don't know if you listen to any of the many 'family-focus' Christian podcasts or radio shows, but I have never heard one of them study 1 Timothy 5 to teach its clear instructions as to how the older Christian women should live her life. Maybe they are afraid of a backlash from them, and a reduction in their donations.

I think they need to impeach Senator Joe Biden for using his influence when he was vice president to fire a prosecutor in Ukraine that was looking into corruption with his son. Biden is on tape, boasting of his holding up USA $$ that was to go to that country.
The Dems are accusing the President (falsely, of course) of doing what they have been doing.
Anyone who thinks the D or R after a person's name doesn't mean much can look at the record on this vote to see that yes, it certainly does. Nearly every D voted in favor, the Rs voted against it.
Now we know that this is useless, and will hurt the Dems next year, because the Senate, where once again having a D or R after your name matters a great deal, will not pass this.
Jim-bob, skip Wills and read real conservatives like John Derbyshire, the Zman blog, and the American Renaissance website.

Whenever you read of the Mormon Church, you should remember their history--they are a product of the Great Awakening in New England, where Joseph Smith lived.
Another group that is a product of that time is the "Millerites" known today as Jehovah's Witnesses.
Thus, the next time anyone starts talking about a Revival or Great Awakening, you can remind them of the damage left behind by the last one!

Don't you love that term...Secret Courts..in a country that people say is Free!
By the way, why do we still have troops in Germany and South Korea when both those countries are able to run factories that produce cars that many Americans are buying.
It is a good thing that President Donald Trump has made the other NATO countries help towards paying their share. Maybe a charge on those cars would have the same effect.

I heard of one city in Florida promoting more electric-car charging locations.
Yet they still promote air travel which has a big carbon footprint.
It's about time they start rating airlines by the carbon footprint of each flight, and printing it on the ticket (in whatever way that works out, in this day of online everything).

I am glad that the headline has the word 'London.' I guess the rest of it makes for enough 'click-bait' for people to follow the story.
As I have said before, anything that happens in England has little application to the USA. If we wanted to be like England, we would move to Canada. In fact, Canada is a country we could look to and many have for health care issues.

Great news, though it's too bad it's not coming from a mainstream source. I will bet Yahoo will not touch this one.
Of course, one man's opinion can always be set aside with the ever-present, 'that's fine for you, but for me...'
And, since when did Hugh Grant become an expert on anything. Last time I looked, actors memorize lines and recite them. That's it. And yet people think they are great sages in today's culture!
