From the NYT article:"Even in the contemporary era of megachurches, Hillsong stands apart. Founded in Australia under a different name in the 1980s, its great innovation was to offer urban Christians a religious environment that did not clash with the rest of their lives. At a time when many Americans have abandoned regular churchgoing, Hillsong attracts thousands of young churchgoers through soaring music and upbeat preaching. If anything, it is cooler than everyday life..." Bunyan's description of Mr. Byways who only followed Christianity in her silver slippers comes immediately to mind. Jesus calls us to examine our lives and jettison that which does not honor Him. The Holy Spirit works in us to accomplish the beginning of this work of sanctification. Somehow, those concepts don't get reflected in the NYT article. Having heard from reliable sources with first hand knowledge, Hillsong is about entertainment and nothing more. The NYT article reflected more of what that looks like in contemporary culture trend-setting terms. That may be the NYT's concept of modern Christianity, in fact. In the end, the Bible calls us to avoid the paths of Mr. Byways and stick to the ancient paths. It's never too early to return to them, but there will be a point in which it will b |

O Lord, thank You that You have such mercy for Your fallen creatures that You put on our skin, lived out lives, and then died on our behalf. We are all really just tares and wolves, O Lord, tearing at one another in disagreement as if we could know You better than our brother or sister. Nay, Lord, but You know us. And in spite of who we are and our deep indwelling sinfulness, You love us anyway and always have. Please, O Lord, have mercy on us and relieve us of our sins so wr may not burden each other with them anymore. In Jesus' name, Amen. |

I beg to differ on your first post, Jim. Most of the protesters I saw on local TV news were young white college students and, boy, were they angry! And they were primarily angry over speech.A couple of years ago, my family and I happened to be driving thru a college town in our region. I had to get out to get gas at a gas station. I was filling up our car, minding my own business, when a young woman a couple of rows over, whom me and my amily had never met or even seen before, started yelling at me and expressing her dislike for me. I figured she was mental, told her to stop her behavior or I'd call the police, quickly finished our transaction, and got us out of there. Afterward, I've guessed that she was so full of "tolerance" for white men thanks to her CRT classes that she had to express herself. |

At the root is an anthropoly theory called "Critical Race Theory," which is at the center of all these so-called systematic racial injustice, the LGBT+ rights campaign, and the general "social justice" turmoil. There has been a push for increasing amounts of social justice educational programming in schools for quite a while. CRT has become the latest way that secularized educated people see the world. It says that all of us are guilty of forwarding injustice unless we actively and consciously work to support the latest elitist- and crowd-sourced definitions of who is downtrodden and against who is supposedly at fault. Homeschooling is a great option. But higher education even in historic Christian colleges becomes problematic. Even reasonable seminaries have fallen to this theory. Take unto you the whole armour of God...that ye may be able to stand in the evil day. |
