isn't this the congregation where many of its churches changed their name to remove 'baptist' from it?
makes you wonder...were they thinking more people would come in?
obviously, not working, so will they go back to their historic baptist name?
not, they will say, well, this decline is still less severe than what is happening in other denominations, like the Episcopalians, Methodists (soon to divide and drop more)
of course, the optimist among us might say, yes, but you are only counting bodies warming the pews...who are the Real Members, the Real Workers in the Fields of the Lord? the business consultant types say, 20/80 rule 20/80 rule--20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work.
a friend told me of a church where the traditional service was changed from 11am to 9:30am, and many people left the church as a result. i would even bet a similar thing is happening in the SBC, maybe with music.
and finally, the Age Factor--going to church is something popular with the Older Set, the RMD Generation, but not with Youth Today, who find it hard to digest doctrines like no-abortion, no sex before marriage, no same sex marriages. |

Did you notice where these riots are happening? Big cities, right? This means people will decide that living in a city is not worth it. If I were a real estate developer, I would be looking to build more areas like The Villages in Central Florida, limited in age to those 55 and above. I would not build large condos in central cities to sell to young people, or refugee capital leaving other countries. Even foreigners can see the news and tell where they might even own condos in these buildings. You may laugh, but many Hong Kong millionaires have invested heavily in condos in places like Miami, and they do not like what they are seeing.
It also means guns sales are going up; people want to protect what they have, and these riots are like a sign---police will not protect your property.
Do you remember in the riots after the Rodney King incident in LA? The Korean shop owners stood on top of the roofs of their shops, armed with shotguns and AR-15 rifles, ready to take action. Funny how the protesters did not touch their stores.Also, what does this mean for race relations in the US? Didn't we vote for a president whose mother was white, father black?
Didn't we cheer the rocket launch by Space X, headed by Elon Musk, an African American? |
