Sermon:
Patriarchy: A New Legalism?
K. W. (Pete) Hurst

“ YES IT IS LEGALISM!!! ”
amen and amen. Patriarchy as it is taught viz. Vision Forum, Doug Phillips, Sovereign Grace Ministries, and Nancy Leigh DeMoss style is legalistic. They have distorted truth and made it a set of rules. There are so many patriarchy followers now in reformed circles, not sure why. Bill Gottard was/is also heavy into this stuff. Those courtship books did nothing to discourage this unbiblical extremist view that is demeaning to women and putting families in bondage everywhere...

'Just wondered what your thoughts on this are. How does God look upon such a person? How should we as christians look upon them?'

Hi

I am covered in tattoos, something I can be ashamed of when other well meaning believers turn up there nose at such an obvious statement of former rebellion, UNTIL I REMEMBER I know they are under the blood and forgiven! They might not wash off but like all my far more wicked sins they are 'washed in his own blood' Rev 1: 5 etc

In context above I was stating that we rightly rejoice when say an unmarried sodomite/bisexual/adulterer who has destroyed lives repents and by grace turns his life around to marry. His sins are washed away and remembered no more (except by certain christians). YET the innocent party when his unsaved wife commits adultery, deserts the family home and remarries somehow commits an unpardonable sin (in some eyes) and suffers for the consequences of a Christ hating spouse. Tell me how you think God looks upon that innocent party for there lies the crux of the matter?

I believe from scripture I am no longer under bondage and free to remarry a believer. Am I left as an innocent party 'to avoid fornication let every man have his own wife'- 'better to marry than burn'or should it be 'burn than to marry'? Interesting

'Michael Hranek wrote:
These are of course things you should know and therefore in this matter of commitment to a wife for you life, Yes! that is the commitment one should make in marriage but if a man makes such a commitment and "his wife" is unfaithful, abandons him and their children and "marries" another don't you think you are going beyond what God Himself in His word instructs and commands to tell that man he is not free in Christ to remarry a believing sister in the Lord if God in His mercy would bring such a blessing into his life?'

I agree! Converted in marriage-my wife wasn't and became hostile because of the gospel of Christ-her stated reason for leaving. She left the family home having commited adultery-which God brought to light and to her shame. She remarried. I have custody of our 3 children.

I haven't remarried but have studied the subject crying to God for light.

Better study the Bible and see what is said about the innocent party. Plenty of sermons on sermonaudio.

Consider 2 pagans marrying without a thought for God as we were compared to your own christian union as 2 believers.

A sodomite/bisexual/adulterer with a 1000 partners-lives destroyed-converted-forgiven-marries-Praise the Lord. BUT innocent Christian?

Dear Michael

"Call upon me in the day of trouble." Ps 50:15

'He is always within call. His ear is never heavy, that it cannot
hear; His arm is not shortened, that it cannot reach or save'

Maybe Pastor's wife could prove a real help to your dear mother at this time as your mother may well open up, by God's grace, to the witness of another lady-one who has a precious saving testimony of the Lord Jesus. Could she offer to read scripture with your mother and maybe a great opportunity will arise to speak of her own faith, confidence and 'blessed assurance' solely resting in the saving merits of Christ-something your dear mum may be convicted earnestly to seek-an assurance before death- 'Jesus is mine.'

Just a thought as I appreciate family life is seldom straightforward, yet we know nothing is impossible with God.

I trust we will all earnestly remember you and your family before the throne of grace at this so needful time. Something sermonaudio forum Christians can surely do...PRAY.

Michael H

Hope you don't mind my asking about your dear mother. Is there a way you could invite your Pastor or a godly sister from your church to visit and speak with her?

slut is a rude word and could be replaced by a biblical term such as women of ill repute
