“ Interesting Topic ”
I happened by this message as it was being featured on the website. Having grown up around gospel music, I have become increasingly aware of the culture that surrounds this music and as well, increasingly disgusted with it and how the church (particularly Southern Baptists) have embraced these performers. I sang in a gospel quartet in highschool and loved and still love the harmonies that accompany this music. But as far as spiritual value, I find the lyrics to be full of humanistic doctines of heaven, God's love and forgiveness, and so on. So little of repentence and so little of true Christianity. It's feel good music. I do not condemn the style because I do not believe a style is indicative of righteousness. But I hate the culture and have found true worship through praise and worship music as the words are often directed towards the Father. While this is a genre that encompasses a miriad of styles, I find that none of it is popular with the non-christians, and that it is not centered on performance or geared to attract non-christians. While perhaps not all involved with this genre have the best of motives, I believe this music is teaching more and more individuals every day how to truely worship Christ. Don't condemn the style, condemn the message. |
