Bro john...Thanks for the encouragement. Your last post to US is virtually spot-on with my take as well. In my opinion it seems that the cessationist view uses that one line as the backbone. But when reading that portion of scripture, one should stop and pause when it says knowledge will pass away as well. And just as you say, I don't have all the answers. But an honest reading of the text seems to indicate Second Coming. |

Bro observer... I wasn't calling you popeish. But the declaration that many share as popeish. You lay a good case. I thought i was as well. Apparently not. Im not declaring I fully believe that the gifts haven't ceased. I've never said that. What I have said is that I won't declare for sure that they have. Fair enough? Anyways. Love you brother. I don't believe this is a salvation issue, so I'll leave it there. Take care |

The Lord desires pure congregations. This is evident not only by the apostles letters to the churches. But most importantly you see how important it is to the Lord with the letters to the churches in Revelation. He needed to send them letters through John because of the sin in the camps. He was standing out side the door and knocking. Could it possibly be that the desensitization to sin caused a cessation? Not that the Cannon was closed therefore no more need for the gifts. But his people were closed so no congregation to give the gifts to? Few there be that find it. Just a thought. |

Dave, observer... As with some other things, i just find it fearful to popeishly declare for certain that the Lord will not allow his gifts anymore. Is that not his business? Does this seem like foolishness to you? ----- Observer... No, i don't physically raise the dead. Nor do i desire that kind of ego tempting work. Thats not my gift. My gift is of comfort and evangelism to the ones that the Lord puts in front of me. We all have a gift given by the Lord. Dont you? On second thought. Maybe he did give the power to me to raise the dead... Spiritually speaking of course. 😠---- Chase... No worries. I wasn't bent out of shape. A smiling face emoji is different then a pile of dung. |

If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:37â€-‬40 KJVWe see that these things were an accepted and approved part of the church. Not only that, but they were done, with approval without the presence of an apostle. Paul made it clear that speaking in tongues in the church was not its intent. It was for the unbeliever. But, he clearly did not forbid it, but said "forbid it not." Why? Because the apostles still were physically on earth? That seems like a dispensational viewpoint. Or is it because the gospel still needed to go out to foreign lands? If that were the case, then tongue should have continued long after the apostles had passed. Seeing that the new world would not be discovered for over a thousand years. Cont. |

Bro observer.... "People who wish to argue for their continuation today are really ignorant of the scriptures. And as with all ignorant people, they are the boldest to affirm their ignorant beliefs!"This sticks a bit my friend. Im well aware of how people come to a resolution on this subject. I can see why we would. We don't see around us anything close to resembling these particular gifts. In fact we see the cringe-worthy baby talk that masqueraded itself as tounges. Which took center stage in the 1980s american word of faith movement. What true believer among us, who is zealous for the honoring of our Lord wouldn't be angry? So.. the natural reaction is to go hard in the opposite direction. And to comb the scriptures ro validate its cessation. You lay out a well studied case. Which is a noble Pursuit. I must go to work now. Will return later with my more detailed thoughts. After that you can decide if im ignorant of the scriptures, or something else hopefully. At the end of the day I desire peace amongst the brethren. |

Chase..Demanding proof text is a dangerous thing? When it comes to the bible being our written authority, i find it a strange thing that you would make this statement. I would also encourage you not to use vile type emojis. Thanks. A very good night to you. |

Bro U.S...Nice. ------ for the help. See, i didn't say ------. Cont.. I just find it presumptuous to say that these things no longer exist without the scripture to back it. Once again, I'm not speaking about the gibberish of charismatic chaos. ---- Christopher... All is well with the new little one. Thanks for asking. I told him what Uncle Chris said, and he spit up on me. Jk😉 Dave... hope all is well with you too brother. You know I love you. Hope my response to Bro Observer answers your questions about my thoughts. Same goes for Christopher. Good night |

Greetings all...Bro observer, As you know, im not much for long back and forth corresponding with written word. Truth be told, im more of a face to face kind of guy. Bro, i find it fascinating that certain things of God, in scripture can be declared as "ceased" with no scripture to back up that claim. I wonder sometimes how much commentaries on multiple subjects shape our views. Its very easy to spot the ridiculous gibberish of the charismatic chaos as false. Thats not what im saying. What i am saying is this... If God decides, today(2018) to use one of his children to declare his glory to a foreign speaking person who has never heard the gospel... who am i to say that he no longer will? Cont.. |

Bro observer and bro john... its a pleasant example of a loving discussion that you are showing us. Thank you. May we all take notice on how to have a discussion to get to a peaceful resolution.Dr tim... we've agreed on a thing or two.. i would just say, that you debate a lot for someone that doesn't want to debate. I would encourage you to be consistent on that stance. Lord bless. |
