Christopher, sadly I've seen that played out before my eyes. It's just like any other conversion-rejoice that they might be saved and watch for fruit of the Holy Spirit.
John UK wrote: " I have also seen Christian ladies who, after a while since their conversion, ceased wearing makeup and jewellery, and ceased wearing jeans in favour of skirts and dresses, and did not cut their hair short after the modern fashion. And it was the Holy Ghost, speaking through his word to their hearts, that did the job. This is not legalism but sanctification, and it is the Lord's work."
My husband has gifted me with a gun. Not only will it serve as protection while the man of the house is gone to work but as protection from wild animals. For ex: if my children and I decide to walk through the woods you'd better believe my gun is coming. We have hogs in my neck of the woods. I dont know if you know anything about hogs but they're mean. We had one rip our dog to pieces . If we were to come upon a hog there's no way I could climb a tree with four little ones. So my options are to, of course, pray we don't come upon one and to be prepared in case we do. Indeed guns are useful.
Solutions, you realize that the first murder (Cain anf Abel) took place without the aid of a gun.....aw so it appears your solution doesn't work but instead creates problems as Christopher has pointes out. Bad guys don't care abouy gun laws. They'll get them and use them regardless if they're banned. And who will they use them on? The good guys who you are argueing should be ripped of protection. Speaking of snow, I remember last yr, at the start of the snow bundling everybody up, only to get outside and have it stop snowing. That all we got in my neck of the woods.
There's a difference between slipping a profane word and going on a rant using multiple profane words or having our daily speech soaked with them. Anyways, what I find concerning is that my old youth minister actually told my husband that as long as it doesnt cause us to sin we could curse Oh the standards of Holy living have slipped so far.
BG " This past week I preached in the great Catholic cathedral a funeral sermon for a close friend of mine who was a Catholic, and they had several Bishops and Archbishops to participate. And as I sat there going through the funeral Mass, that was a very beautiful thing, and certainly straight and clear in the gospel. There was a wonderful little priest that would tell me when to stand and when to kneel and what to do"
But he probably only participated in the scriptural parts and that's ok because Liuther says it is, right?!
BG's answer to a question regarding the virigin birth: Q. Do you think a literal belief in the Virgin birth -- not just as a symbol of the incarnation or of Christ's divinity -- as an historic event is necessary for personal salvation? Â A. While I most certainly believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, I do not find anywhere in the New Testament that this particular belief is necessary for personal salvation.
He said what?!?! If Christ wasn't born of virgin then he was just a mere man, a sinner.
Continued " Our pastor has made it clear that not everyone who goes to the altar, gets baptized, joins the church, does good works are saved." Such as BG. Dolores, there are wolves in sheep clothing. BG has been shown to be one of those. I'd encourage you, without being emotional, to reread the proof that has been set before you in previous threads concerning this wolf.
Micheal wrote : " uncommon common sense..." The view you and 1517 share is not uncommon nor common sense.
Dolores wrote: " I don't see him as saying that all muslims or Catholics or anyone else for that matter can get to have to heaven without going through the death of Christ on the cross. He is saying, if they have the light given to them from God, through whatever means, they, too, can be saved" This comea off as a contradictory statement. Perhaps I'm reading it wrong but it seems you're saying 1) He's not saying you can get to heaven without goingto Christ (sidenote: Christ didnt die to save us from hell but to set us free from the bondage of sin. Escaping hell is a bonus.) 2) He's saying through whatever means you can be saved. Through whatever means? You mean like praying to Mary? No only through Christ. Christopher has provided a qoute from BG. " He left the teaching of the doctrines up to the churches they came from and the Holy Spirit to led and guide those who had no church as to which church they needed to serve God in" Do you mean like where he told Catholics to go back to their idols and that horrible.religious system. Yea you'll never convince me the Holy Spirit led him to say that. " Our pastor has made it clear that not everyone who goes to the altar,
I for one am tired of emotional manipulation. Christianity isn't about "me" and what "I feel, think, like, etc". Lets keep to Scripture. Anyways, in an effort to move on I'd like to share a Proverbs. One that I try to use to teach my children but they have yet to understand that they can't hog all the legos-pray for me. Ha. Proverbs 26:20 "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. 26:21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife." Time will reveal where one stands- serving self/emotions or denying self and serving God.
