"The YouGov poll commissioned by John Humphrys, the broadcaster and writer, found that 42% of the 2,200 people taking part considered religion had a harmful effect."

This is the guy who challenged some people to "convert" him. Then proceeded to get Liberals to do it.
Thus demonstrating his ignorance of true religion.

So this poll of atheists, agnostics and "who knows" and probably liberals, - is going to be about as much use as polling Meerkats.

Why oh why do people, who don't even study religion, automatically think they know all about it???

Your post
"Can anyone show me from scripture where we are exhorted to write explanations of doctrines down for the succeeding generations? What? Is there no Holy Spirit who can teach each generation? Something is surely amiss and out of kilter."

What's this JD, do you imply that "Truth" changes every generation???

Alternatively
If Truth remains the same throughout time, - Then clearly the truth received and taught by previous true Christians, taught by the Spirit, will proclaim the same Gospel.

Therefore
Since the Holy Spirit taught our forebears and the Holy Spirit teaches us today, thus the Truth of that doctrine will be found to be consistent, in the record left by the True Church in previous centuries.

This continuity also perceives the Holy Spirit working throughout time and history.

Whereas your point implies that previous revelations, or the deductions obtained from them may have been erroneous.

Thanks for that on JD!! I agree he can be difficult. But I suppose the Lord didn't promise it would be easy for us in this world.

However I was referring to the other "cowboy" below which you wish would hop away.

It's great to hear your Amillennialist too.
Cheers

Morning (at least it is at this end)

I note your frustration with the cowboy. As indeed many have complained similarly. His arrogant and condescending attitude is clearly unChristian. But I wondered where all this vindictive belligerance comes from. Obviously he disagrees with every standard Christian discipline on the board, therefore is he JW, or 7th Day Adventist, Scientology, Popery....or????

We need to do some hard praying for this lost soul.

God Bless.

"You have had real occasions to do it too because I have laid out something to believe and have shown from the texts why I take my position and believe I am right."

Sorry if we didn't communicate this before to you JD, - But just to be sure we get our message across now - YOUR Wrong.
OK!

Now don't forget as we've repeatedly tried to teach you
1] The reason why we refer to previous theolgians and ministers of the Doctrines of Grace is because they are Biblical, and they are correct iaw Scripture. AND We Christians can by grace perceive this simple fact. Thats why we agree with them, AND the Bible.

2] We observe in your synergist/arminian type posts, that you bring Sovereign God down and you raise the Totally Depraved sinner up.
I'm afraid we cannot accept these UNBiblical philosophies of your religion.

But please do keep trying. God is merciful and does sovereignly save HIS Elect.

2Cor 3:5 "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."

Zech 4:6 "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts."

Good try Mike
Wrong!!!
But good try.
(Have we been here before)?

This is the Reformed way.

1John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and HATH GIVEN US AN UNDERSTANDING, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life."

God Bless.

Your question
"so why the evil surmising and false accusations?"

Because the Christian is endowed with the Truth to perceive the Lie.

"Is there a Muslim plan to take over the world?"

In the minds of some Muslims yes.

The article, from Popish sources, misses the point of the problem in the west, which is PC/Liberal attitudes which rejects ALL authority and decency in society.

Thus the mind set of dismissal of Scripture begins a decline into zero authority in government, judiciary, academia and education. The consequent moral decline is evident in all these areas.

But Satan has been carrying out this work since the beginning and continues unabated today. This is nothing new.

The RCC has itself been involved in this bare faced lie, since the pseudo preachers and professors formed their own part of the church, as predicted by Peter in 2Peter - "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you......And many shall follow their pernicious ways"

So yes the Muslims are an instrument of Satan as the papal antichrist and liberalism and cults and atheism etc is.

It's ok JD, we are taught of the Holy Spirit in Truth discernment.
As for your religion and the residuum leftovers from Popish doctrines which you have retained, we are warned of this by the Lord as follows.

Matt 13:24 "The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn."

So beware "tares" of dogma will/(do) remain in the church unto the end.

Now advice for you JD.
Find a Reformed Preacher and pray hard to the Lord for wisdom and understanding, reading Scripture afresh without prejudice.

cbcpreacher and MurrayA

John Ryle wrote in his sermon on John 15:17-21

"Mere churchmanship and outward profession are a cheap religion of course, and cost a man nothing. To know and understand these things is of the utmost importance to our comfort. Nothing is so mischievous as the habit of false expectations. Let us realize that human nature never changes, that the carnal mind is enmity against God, and against God’s image IN HIS PEOPLE.

PERSECUTION helps to prove that we are children of God and have treasure in heaven. It supplies evidence that we are really born again that we have grace in our hearts and are heirs of glory. “If you were of the world the world would love his own.” PERSECUTION in short is like the Goldsmith’s Hall mark on real silver and gold; It is one of the marks of the converted man."

# Thus we can expect the attacks on the site, but continue to contend in Truth by His grace.

John 15:18 "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Keep on posting Bible Truth brothers. (Even to JD and his supporters)

Covenant with Abraham and his seed.

Romans 4:13 "For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith."

"When God tells Abraham, "I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you . . . to be your God . . . I will be their God" (Gen. 17:6-8), the personal pronouns are the key words: God is committing himself to Abraham and Abraham's seed in a way in which he does not commit himself to others. God's covenant commitment expresses eternal election; his covenant love to individuals sinners flows from his choice of them to be his for ever in the peace of justification and the joy of glorification."(Packer)

Gal 3:16 "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

Have a better week next week.

Some Covenant verses.
For obvious reasons I cant post them all up.
Problem is will you see it?

Gen 3:15
Isa 42:6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
Rom 3:20-21 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested....
8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh....
Gal 3:21. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
Mark 16:15-16
John 3:16
Rom 10:6, 9
Gal 3:11
Ezek 36:26-27
John 6:44-45.

Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you
1 Cor 11:25
Heb 7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament
9:15-17 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament....

NOT Christian. So, correctly judged and rejected by those who run local church.

But I'm sure there are plenty of "halls" the other religion of Liberalism, will allow her to use for idolatrous purposes.

"What difference does it make what someone in the 5th century or the 16th or the 19th had to say?"

Well JD, one point about The intervening centuries of Reformed and Calvinist writings teaches, is that the Truth as taught and preached by the Reformed Church, has not changed one iota from Scripture.

Throughout all centuries we can observe from these teachers, preachers and their doctrines, that Truth and correct exegesis of the Scriptures, remains consistent down through the ages in the True Church; By the grace of God of course.

Additionally we can observe that the same old heresy of salvation by works, which the Popish church retains, has also influenced the non-Reformed; eg. Pelagian, Semi-Pelagian, Arminian, Synergist, Episcopalian, JW etc etc.

This sad state of affairs is also seen in too many modern non-Reformed denominations today in our communities.

But we can see the teaching in all of this, as Paul states, 1Cor 11:19 "For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you"
Now we can observe this in history, today and of course on the threads.

God is Sovereign.
And
Man is Totally Depraved.

No Doubt about this Biblical Truth and Doctrine of Grace.

Have a nice Weekend.

JD

"Arminianism and Hyper-Calvinism were BOTH among the historical ERRORS battled by Charles Spurgeon, who was himself a 5 point Calvinist. He vigilantly fought these twin errors on both sides of the spectrum. One of Hyper-Calvinism's main errors is to declare that, because of God's sovereignty, we should not evangelize the lost. Spurgeon rejected such nonsense as do the large majority of people who would call themselves Calvinists today (such as R.C Sproul, John Piper, John MacArthur, Alistair Begg and many others) We believe the doctrine of election should be declared strongly because the Bible does and because man's affections are enslaved to sin. He cannot save himself but needs the effectual working of the Holy Spirit if he is to have ears to hear when we preach the gospel. The preacher casts forth the seed of the gospel (the command to believe) indiscriminately but the Holy Spirit germinates the Word (so to speak) in the hearts of those he intends to save; ie those given to the Son by the Father in the eternal covenant made before time (John 6:37, 39, Eph 1, 4). Many Christian missionaries whom most would consider heroes held to the five point of Calvinism: William Carrey, he was opposed by a Hyper-Calvinist, Jonathan Edwards, David Brainard......"

Another state joins the Federation of Sodom and Gomorrah, there soon won't be many states left free of the abomination and curse of God.

"Anyway, was the theology of the RCC the ONLY theology taught prior to Calvin or Arminius. I say NOT."

If we go back to the 5th century we see Augustine and Pelagius arguing the same old two ways.
Augustine was a Calvinist
Pelagius was a Hyper Arminian

Then came along Pelagius's pupil (John Cassian) who basically introduced Semi-Pelagianism which is a step closer to Arminianism with grace sprinkled on Pelagianism.

These two doctrines ran with their separate formulae from then on through history. These two are basic to all groups and denominations today as much as in history.
I see JD has contributed his two cents below, I believe he is Fundamental Baptist - who are Arminian, and I'm sure I'll get an arguement over that.

As for your "Apostolic" theory, - Is there any denomination who does not claim to be that.

Many of the Arminian "type" contributers on the board reject my calling them that, yet one can see the same basic formula in their posts. The usual retort is that I'm a "Hyper" - (JD)? However there is a list of Hyper convictions which I do not adhere to and I reject. But I could argue that the Hyper Calvinist is more akin to the Arminian than the true Calvinist.

I still say there is no third way.
