Minnow, for your information I am a biblical fundamentalist who holds to the doctrines of grace. Either you can defend your position from scripture or you can't. You can't be a True Calvinist and a True Christian, you cannot serve two masters. Same goes for the Arminians on this board.

I believe in Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistable Grace as well as the Perseverance of the Saints as well as the rest.

What I question is your ability to defend your position without resorting to ad hominems which makes me wonder, do you really know why you believe what you believe.

Fact is, the bible does teach unconditional election from the passages I've cited.

R.K. we are talking election, not salvation. Where does that leave repentance and faith then? "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

Where does that leave "coming to Christ" when God the Father draws you. (John 6:44) Where does that leave John 6:37 "All that the Father giveth me ***shall come to me***; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."

Again, we are talking election, not final salvation.

Lone Wolf,
This argument is fallacious. Defending ones argument from scripture presupposes that one is able to perceive and understand the truth of scripture. Otherwise, one is not able to use scripture to defend his argument, or he will use the wrong verse to defend his arguments.
For example, are we to assume from your scripture references that you are defending unconditional election? If not, then we may conclude that you do not perceive the truth of scripture.
That is not necessarily the case. Oftentimes Calvinist rhetort with the cliche of one not being able to perceive the truth when he is unable to present his case from scripture, but from merely conjecture or subjective reasoning or merely hearsay. It is clear from Romans 8-9 that God is sovereign in salvation and that God unconditionally elects His own and has done so before the foundation of the world.

Claiming that someone cannot perceive the truth when no evidence is given for them to perceive or not perceive is rhetoric at best.

Minnow,

With all due respect, whether or not one can perceive the truth of scripture is irrevelent, if you cannot defend your position from scripture, then the credibility of your argument is waning.

Acts 13:48 is an excellent verse on uncoditional election, but Romans 9:11 is even better as well as Romans 8:29-30.

The only problem with Casob's explanation is that the word in the Greek is not "tasso" τεταγμενοι "tetagmenoi" which is in the perfect passive tense.

The verb επιστευσαν is Aorist Active Indicative and simply means "had faith" Gr. = pistis

So those who were ordained to eternal life had faith to believe the gospel.

Very true Preacher. It is interesting to say the least to hear arminians pray beofre going out soul-winning. They pray the prayers you mentioned, that God would open their eyes that they might see, open their ears that they might hear, open their hearts that they will be receptive, grant them the faith that they might believe, but yet denies God's effectual working in those very things in their own conversion experience and refuse to give God credit or glory for any of it.

Minnow, A question for you. Isn't faith a fruit of the spirit according to Paul's letter to the Galatians 5 verse 22, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

How can an unregenerated man who has not been quickened by the Holy Spirit exercise faith unto salvation when it is not listed as a work of the flesh. He does not have the Holy Spirit so how can he exercise spiritual fruit?

Faith unto salvation is wrought out by the Holy Spirit and the will of God the Father, not by the volition and self will of man.

Minnow, KK did say one thing that is true,

"What a man LOVES is what he will CHOOSE TO DO !!!"

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Men who are lost, dead in tresspasses and sin will always choose by his very nature to remain in sin unless God sovereignly intervenes.

So how does he explain how one who loves his sin all of a sudden hates his sin and begins to love a holy and righteous God. Does he do it by his own power or does God sovereignly intervene?

Mike from New York,

Can you support that from scripture? If Jesus did not have faith, then he could not be our prime example. He is the author and finisher of faith, as such he is the epitamy of faith.

DJC49, It is interesting how these can assert that when Jesus prayed to the Father, he did not pray in faith believing the the Father would answer and perform what He said He would do.

Heb 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
