Jesus didn’t just “make propitiation.” He IS propitiation. 1 John 2:2—And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Word of God. Don’t you just love it?
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1Â Â Â Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2Â Â Â By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3Â Â Â For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4Â Â Â And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. There it is, Ladybug. The gospel, the whole gospel, and nothing but the gospel. This is the gospel Paul preached, the gospel I preach, and the only gospel that saves. Done here.
Hopeful, although you didn’t say anything new or different, at least you did say what you did in a graceful and courteous manner, and I thank you for that. Yes, I agree that “Ye must be born again,” and the moment you are, you are saved, a new creature, passed from death unto life, given the Spirit of adoption. You aren’t on the threshold of being saved. You are SAVED. Being born again and being saved are not two different things, but two names for the same thing.
My position on Graham, Frank, is that like two Old Testament kings, Saul and Solomon, he started strong and finished weak. I believe that multitudes got saved under his ministry, but that Graham and the BGEA then threw the newborn lambs to the wolves. Now let LB say that the gospel Graham preached can’t save anyone. If she ever gets saved herself she’ll see.
I have not said a word about Billy Graham on this thread (except to quote the original headline from the article). I guess my lack of reading comprehension is why I have consistently placed in the 99th percentile on the reading and verbal skills portions of aptitude tests. What is the true gospel? Is it the one Paul preached, and the one he said saves people (I Corinthians 15:1-4), or is it another one?
No, John, I don’t. How can sin make man innocent? I’m afraid you lost me on that one. What a pity that some are so foolish that they cannot understand how God can offer salvation to anyone willing to receive it (by grace through faith) without compromising His sovereignty in the least. How quickly we forget that all of us sheep used to be dogs.
Thanks for your reply, LB. Obviously you don’t know the true gospel, or you would have put it forth. For your edification and for the benefit of WHOSOEVER wants to know, here it is: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 3   For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4   And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. This is the gospel that is the power of God unto salvation, and it is the ONLY gospel that saves. Any other gospel is accursed, as are those who preach it. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and THOU shalt be saved,” whosoever thou art, and he or she who denies this is a liar and an agent of Satan himself.
Do YOU know “the true gospel “? If so, why don’t you trot it out, instead of spewing bitterness and accusations (and I thought Satan was “the accuser of the brethren”) like you have done so far on this thread? You act as if you are more concerned about keeping the wrong people from getting saved than you are in helping the right ones to find the way of life.
But John, I thought the reason Jesus hung for so many hours on the cross was so He’d have time to instruct that thief on (drumroll, eerie organ music) The Doctrines Of Sovereign Grace. Do you mean to tell me that man just asked Jesus for salvation and got it? Kinda sounds like Romans 10:13 to me: “For WHOSOEVER [Yippee! Hot diggety dog! Glory hallelujah!] shall call upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved.”
Jim, that was certainly a nice effort at deflection (“How white supremacy infected... the Republican Party”). Give yourself a pat on the back for trying to draw readers’ attention away from the headline above, “Billy Graham statue to replace that of DEMOCRATIC white supremacist.” As you well know (and attempt to deny), white supremacy has been the hallmark of the Democratic Party for almost two centuries now. It’s somewhat amusing to see how successful they have been in keeping you personally on the plantation. And you just keep helping them forge more links for your chains.
