Jim Lincoln,

I believe the King James Bible that I hold in my hand to be the actual, true Word of God in the English language.

Do you believe your NASB to be the actual, true Word of God in the English language?

Don't post links. Answer the question. Clearly and concisely. Don't go around the world. Answer the question.

I know where the true Word of God was before my KJV came to be. I can trace it back through the centuries.

If you believe your NASB to be the real Word of God, where was God's Word before it (the NASB) came into being? It differs greatly from the KJV in MANY places so it cannot possibly have the same pedigree as the KJV so where was it for all those centuries? Do you believe God was hiding His true Word from us for all those centuries?

If the NASB is NOT God's Word in English, what is? The NIV? The NRSV? But they cannot all be - they all differ greatly. So where is it? Where has it been hiding? The 'originals'? But they are long gone! Has God been playing a shell game with us? You may think so but I certainly don't. I believe He has preserved His Word for His sheep. Do you?

Answer the questions, Jim. Don't post links. Answer in your own words with your own thoughts. I know what James White & Gil Rugh think. What do you believe? And why?

Jim Lincoln,

Where was God's Word before your NASB?

Don't post links. Please answer my question sensibly. Use your own knowledge or beliefs - not Gil Rugh or James White quotations.

If your answer is that it was in the 'originals', explain where it was between the first century of the church and this century when the NASB came into being.

John, I'd love to belong to this church, too. I listen to Mr. Thackway's sermons regularly on SermonAudio. It almost seems like it would be worth moving to Wales to become a member.

I would also encourage anyone who loves God's Word to join the Bible League Trust and to subscribe to The Bible League Quarterly magazine (Mr. Thackway is the editor): http://www.bibleleaguetrust.org/

Several articles from the magazine are available on the BLQ website and they are all excellent. The one on 'Worldliness' (authored by John Thackway) is particualarly good.

I believe that those who complain that the AV is too difficult to read or understand are just making excuses.

Why is it that so many millions of people in centuries past have read the AV and grasped it's message with no problem? Why has it suddenly become so difficult to comprehend? Has everyone just become incredibly dumb? Have we all lost our reading comprehension skills? I don't think so. Rather, I believe people have become Biblically ignorant due to the proliferation of new 'translations'.

Thomas Nelson, Zondervan and Tyndale have spent millions (if not billions) of dollars in the past 30 years to convince everyone that they are incapable of understanding the language of the King James Bible. Why do you suppose that is? If the advertising didn't work, believe me, they wouldn't be spending the money.

The AV is the crown jewel of English Bible translation. It has mostly one or two syllable words and if you think about what you are reading (AS GOD INTENDED) it is very easy to comprehend and joy to read. It will literally be a blessing to your soul.

Jim Lincoln,

I'm not going to jump into this argument because I believe every point that can be made has been made on this and other SA Bible version threads over the last few years. You obviously have your own (or Gil Rugh's) opinion and you will not consider any reasonable refutation.

That said, you need to be careful what you say here. If God's hand was indeed guiding the development and preservation of the AV - and the evidence is STRONGLY in favor of that fact - you are treading on VERY dangerous ground. If the Holy Spirit was involved in the inspiration of the originals (He was) and the preservation of the translation God has honored for 400 years (He is), you are playing with fire. Mark 3.28 & 29.

Laugh at me if you want but you need to think seriously about what you are implying.

I agree with Rick. I do not understand how anyone who understands what the Saviour has done for them can watch that blasphemous trash. And, no, I've never seen an episode. All I know about any of those cartoon shows on Fox is what I've seen in the news.

I actually know Roman Catholicism very well and I know for a fact that they have absolutely no use for the KJV (other than to discredit and destroy it) - and with good reason.

I'm certainly no expert on Benny Hinn but I didn't even know he was married.

Every account that I've read (and I've read several) of him being seen anywhere in public, he's been surrounded by bodyguards and a bevy of beautiful women.

Mike wrote:

"Ain't Christian liberty a wonderful thing?"

Indeed it is!

I am, however, going to ask this for the sake of argument (and no I personally do not keep the Sabbath on Saturday):

So can we now kill? Can we now take the Lord's name in vain? Can we now commit adultery? May I now steal in the name of liberty? Which other parts of the decalogue were done away with?

I have heard every argument that can be made on both sides thru the years and I must say I have never heard one that convinces me that the Sabbath was changed or that believers have no obligation to observe it (even though I do not keep the Saturday Sabbath). In fact, a very good argument can be made that the RC cult instituted the change to Sunday.

I find it amusing that pastors will preach and argue until they are blue in the face that Christians absolutely, positively are required to tithe (which ther little or no New Testament support for) yet they will call you a legalist and a Pharisee for suggesting that perhaps the Sabbath was never Scripturally changed or done away with.

James Dobson is (and has been) a one-man disaster to Christian families and to the church in general. His hyper-emotional, crybaby antics have wreaked havoc on homes and turned men everywhere into little girls. Little girls can't lead families.

His self-esteem claptrap has been devastating (men who carry their crosses have died to themselves, they don't esteem themselves) and his whiny 'meet her needs' teaching has caused more friction in marriages than he can imagine. How many men have come home after working all day to support their families, only to find their wife in a self-absorbed snit after listening to Dobson whine & cry on the air with a roundtable of women whose perceived selfish 'needs' aren't being met?

Even the few things he is right about, he qualifies with some worldly, compromising disclaimer.

Dobson appears to be a Freudian psychologist (ever hear him mention SIN?), a theistic evolutionist (Hugh Ross makes him giddy), and the high priest of all of the self-this, self-that teaching that has overtaken Christian churches, sermons and music like a tidal wave.

Now he wants to use tax-free donations to 'influence the culture' via the political arena. His coziness with the Roman Catholic cult ought to alarm believers everywhere.

Anybody who has ever sent James Dobson a nickel is terribly misguided.

James Dobson is a dangerous, dangerous man. His mixing of psychobabble (90%) with the Bible (10%), feminized family life and (worst of all) promotion of self-esteem has done untold damage to Christians, families and churches.

I agree 100% with John on this.

When I was in Bible college (dispensational teaching was in it's heyday), the course on eschatology was based on a book written by a strict dispensationalist from Dallas Theological Seminary. The more I studied and compared dispensationalism with the Bible, the more I realized that it was simply not accurate. There is no basis for expecting a 'pre-trib rapture' without REALLY stretching Scripture and taking numerous verses out of context.

Like John, I would never go so far as to say that I'm not wrong, but based on my own study of the Word, I just do not see a 'rapture' as taught by many.

Much like Jim 'Links' Lincoln's beliefs regarding Bible texts & translations: When you study the subject and do your own homework, you quickly find that it just doesn't hold up under honest scrutiny.

Also keep in mind that a LOT of folks have made a LOT of money (Hal Lindsay, Tim Lahaye & countless others) teaching, selling books and making movies about the dispensational 'rapture'.

Jim Lincoln is right. Sarah Palin needs to go home and raise her kids.

It's tragic that there are so many who claim the name of Christ yet see no problem with this woman who has essentially neglected her God given reponsibilities at home in clear violation of His Word. Her husband ought to be ashamed of himself for allowing (maybe encouraging?) her to do it.

If Sarah Palin is a Christian, she needs to go home and raise her children and stop blaspheming God's Word (Titus 2.5).

James White is good at debating.

He's also a lot like that Murray A guy who used to post on SA all the time. He pulls some obscure piece of information out of his hat (that may or may not be accurate) that there is no way in the world his opponent would have had any way of knowing to make himself appear intelligent. He's also good at denigrating his detractors when they have him on the ropes. I'm sure he was a champ on his debate team in high school.

James White is the darling of the pseudo-intellectual crowd because he looks and sounds like he knows what he's talking about. From my experience, however, if you do your own research and study the history & facts involved, you'll find that he distorts much of the truth or effectively spins it to his advantage. Kind of a cross between Hugh Ross and Bill Clinton.

Mike,

The Trinitarian Bible Society will send you a free Bible (or Bibles) if you cannot afford one and request it.

Also, TBS is a registered charity that uses all net income (above operating expenses) to provide free Scriptures to those who cannot afford them, all over the world. They give away loads of Bibles every year. They offer only the AV in the English language because they firmly believe that it is by far the most trustworthy. They also offer the Scriptures in other languages that are based on an uncorrupted textual base. They give a lot of those away, too. Many people in far corners of the earth have access to the Scriptures today that they would not otherwise have if not for the TBS.

Every year TBS publishes an annual report detailing precisely what they take in (they never ask for money), what goes out and how many free Bibles, calendars, Scripture portions, etc. are provided free of charge to those who request them.

I know of no organization on earth that is more careful in handling what God has provided them or tries harder to be clear and accountable to it's many supporters.

I would encourage you to subscribe to the TBS Quarterly Record magazine if you are interested in the details of the Society's work and generosity.
